Painting. Maybe yoga later. Need to make a batch of cookies too, to take to my race team jersey party tonight. I don't really want to go, but I'll stop in, try on the new kits, and get my order in.
Lots of stressful stuff going down around here with Nate's business, but then, lots of stuff is good too, so we're trying to keep it positive. It's stupid though - the seems to hit the fan with Nate's company right before Christmas every year. What gives?? Last year his superintendent fell off a ladder two days before Christmas and busted his arms, shoulders, and ankle. The year before that he rear-ended someone in the company truck - low speed, no car damage, no one was hurt, but the people (who were totally fine at the site of the accident) saw that it was a company vehicle and decided to sue his insurance for made-up injuries. We didn't want to pay to go to court, so the insurance settled (I'm still bitter that people can be dishonest and get off this easily). This year, he gets serv[...]

Last week, I did not run at all because the Mrs. was out of town and my son is too small to leave by himself. I did not get to bike for the same reason. When the wife got back, I got sick. Today was the first day I was able to get a work out in, and it felt great.

Pub night after swim tonight.  Truth be told, I am pretty tired.  Felicity has slept through the night the last few nights and it's been awesome but i feel just as tired even though it's great to get good sleep too.
Things have slowed down at work. I still have a bunch to do but the urgency is not there.  Lots to do for the holidays still.
I made this winter salad last night. Decently tasty. I have a better roasted veg salad recipe from the Rachael Ray mag from a few years ago. Might mash them up one day. Not a terribly complicated thing to do.  The recipe calls for turkey bacon. I don't believe in turkey bacon. I used real bacon.  I don't usually use the microwave to cook it but it was pretty fast and now my microwave smells like maple macon.  Blessing?
But definitely needed to have salad for dinner after a crazy weekend of bbq from Marky and Sparky's, the meat fest of Medieval Times and then Swiss Chalet ribs and fries on M[...]

Barely any sleep last night (was wound up after my team won in dramatic fashion!) and both Bentley and I kept hearing noises - Bentley even barked at one of them. Stresses me out! I finally put in ear plugs at like 3 a.m. and that helped.
But when I did fall asleep I had I think my first IMLOU 2015 dream! Love these, they are hilarious! In this episode I was on the run and killing it - I stopped at special needs to get a chocolate GU (I swear I could TASTE this in my dream!) and breezed through the 2nd half. When I got to the finish chute another guy was in front of me so I just stopped. And then stayed there for 8 minutes to wait for a tri club buddy (Alan). Only one other person finished in this 8 minute time period but he was not in my age group so I let him go. Finally I crossed - with a finish time of exactly 13:53 - and then my old coach was right there. I subtracted the 8 minutes I stood in the chute from my time and told him I finished in 13:45. I also told him that I didn'[...]

10:20am:  My roommate leaves for AZ today, so the next 5 days will be quiet and I'll appreciate the time alone.  Well, as alone as I can be with two 75 pound dogs hanging around....
Maybe a quick workout when I get home, assuming that my roommate has taken care of the dogs (walked and fed) before she left the house.  And tomorrow and Friday I'll be working from home -- my boss is letting me since it makes it easier with the pups.
Rhetorical question:  when one is working and also wearing headphones, do you think that person wants to be interrupted with idle chitchat that could just as easily be brought up as lunchtime conversation?

My second time in the pool this week. I had almost forgot how much I enjoyed the swimming part of training. I also remember when 500 yds was my warm up!!!!  So I have a ways to go. I am having some shoulder pain already so I am not sure what is going on there. I plan to keep swimming my 500 yds for another week and then slowly amp up the distance. I will determine a training plan for me and then set up a schedule for 2015.

10:39 AM: Sooooooooo... woke up in the middle of the night last night with arthritis pain in my knee so bad that it was making me sweat. Decided that today I'm going to call the HMO and see if I can somehow get back into my ORIGINAL ortho and get a cortisone injection to tide me over til I can get into the big guy. HMO says no. I will need another PCP appointment, another referral and another Ortho Appt at their ortho. Whoever is associated with their medical group. I am about to rip my hair out.
I have never done anything this complex before in my life. Here. There. This referral. That doctor. That group. This doctor. Blah blah blah. Let the record reflect I will *never* sign up for an HMO again. No matter what. I had a stupid experience with the HMO in the 1990s and I am having a stupid experience with them now. Never. Again. NO NO NO.

Ugh.  Just way too tired this am.  This remains my biggest issue with getting back to 'real' training--much harder to get to bed early enough to maintain the early workouts than it used to be.  Probably no chance for a workout this evening as the girls have their Christmas concert.

HaHA!  Take THAT, enabler!!
I took a sleeping pill last night at 9:30pm and by 10pm I was ready to crash, which I did.  IT.WAS.GLORIOUS!
I still didn't really want to get up when the alarm went off, but as I trundled out the door, I was really glad I got it done.  Maybe I'm finding my mojo again?
No word yet as to whether or not I have to go to Vancouver, but I'm pretty confident that I'll be let off the hook. (but still keeping my fingers firmly crossed!)

HOME. Now for laundry, work and training catch-up.
It was a virus. I feel like dog-doo. At least not stepped in dog-doo. Hopefully I can keep this at bay now that I am home.

"If you don't like the road you're walking, start paving another one." - Dolly Parton
It really is quite simple. If you don't like something in your life, change it. Of course, the reality is that it may be a bigger challenge or take more work, but if you don't make the effort, the change will never come.
