Trying to Tri

Sometimes, it's good to reward oneself.

This morning, I almost skipped my run. When my alarm went off, I decided I deserved a rest day after yesterday's swim and bike ride. But, considering that next week will be an easy/rest week, I decided I would regret not getting in my run this morning. So, I got myself out of bed and out the door. It was a great decision.

Temperature was very cool (low 70s), with a very light misty rain. My first reward for getting out of bed to run. I decided to cut my distance by about a mile, primarily because of the increased load of this week (I am petrified of doing too much too soon), but also as my second reward for getting out of bed to run.

The run felt very good. My breathing was normal for an easy effort, and the pace felt comfortable. As usual, my first mile was the slowest (and also entirely uphill). My second two miles were the fastest (and downhill), and the last mile was a bit slower, but also uphill. I returned home with a sense of acco[...]

OMG, I have been so tired since spin class this morning. And sore. I dragged the kids to the pool this afternoon just so I could soak in the hot tub and relax my muscles. Going to try to actually hit the trails first thing tomorrow morning before my nephew's bar mitzvah. Sunday morning planning a LONG ride. Need to get some fitness back!

2nd rest day this week - I will be running both Saturday and Sunday but short runs.
Extremely disappointed that my rockstar candidate in Wichita actually declined the job offer we made to her. This was after she told me on Wednesday that she was going to accept, but had a few questions on maternity leave.
She is due in October and I assured her we would work out her leave, but when it came to the actual policy it was not enough for her and her financial situation. Our company policy is that if you have not worked for at least 1 year, you only get 3 weeks paid + 3 weeks unpaid. She was trying to negotiate working those 2nd 3 weeks from home since she needs the money, but the company requires a doctors release to go back to work (even from home) and when she checked with her OB they said uhhh no. You will need more than 3 weeks off of work. So all of that led up to her declining and I'm just beside myself. I had talked her up to our team and was SO excited for her to start. [...]

I took a sick day from work today due to so many appointments that are scattered all over the city. Took my car for an oil change this morning. Have an acupuncture appointment for my shoulder late morning and a MRI for my head scheduled this afternoon. Still trying to keep up with emails for work. I will probably work a little this evening.

And my knee feels really good. After BC I am planning to ease into running again. This time I think I will be able to build gradually; and not push myself too hard.

Slept in this morning, felt like I needed the rest. Should get my Mac back with a shiny new hard drive sometime next week. I really miss my morning ritual of sitting down with a cup of coffee and checking out BT and Facebook. Just not the same using the laptop.

Every now and then I'm tempted to try a long distance race event.  I've done a 100 mile bike in the past, started training for a marathon last year but bailed, and had wanted to try a 4km swim this summer but in the end I find it's the half distance that is so perfect to train for with my schedule.  It's so easy for me to fit in an hour swim in the mornings but anything more takes some serious juggling.  And a 2 hour run on the weekend is fine but more than that and I suffer from boredom.  Maybe if I could run a 3 hour marathon it would be another story but at my fitness level - a marathon would be a very long run and I'd rather spend the time doing something else.
Anyway - I've opted to run the Fall Colours half in Ottawa.  As a family we love going there and it's so pretty in the fall.  Plus lots of hotels - even dog friendly ones.  As for the swim... no clue.

Work a Little Harder

2.5 miles ran this morning and it was painfree. It was also at "summer EZ" speed.  Felt a little twinge in the hammy when I sat at my desk and twisted funny. But NBD, I am on my way to a return to running after a couple of weeks of nothingness. Now to see what I can do with the ever expanding gut.
Last night's fundraiser was a success. I saw a number of $2200 for the EACF from Celebrity Bartender night, and my bet is that there will be follow up funds. Which leads us to today's QOTD:

The twice yearly "BT is heading downhill" thread made me start to think about what I like here, what I use and don't use. So as I began to review the entire site, I ran across the BT Blogger. I believe there are way more people on this thing then I ever suspected. A[...]
