Sigh.. I woke up with my hands ALMOST too numb to hold my coffee.
Don't be afraid.. I did have my coffee, the world will continue to spin on its axis.
Note: Spring days after a rainy day are almost too pretty for words.
I went to a shitake mushroom growing workshop last evening. I came home with my very own inoculated log. Now all I have to do is wait a year and then have shitake mushrooms. This also means having this log stored in a shady place in the yard AND not allowing it to be burned for a whole year. We will see how this works out for us :)

We are having an animal exhibit at the College today and I have this nursery rhyme stuck in my head.  No one else in my office has ever heard it!  Photos of animals to be posted later.  Maybe I will hold the snake! I went to the animal fair,The birds and the beasts were there,The old baboon by the light of the moonWas combing his auburn hairThe monkey he got drunkAnd fell on the elephant's trunkThe elephant sneezed and went down on his kneesAnd what became of the monk?

A new path

I cannot get motivated for this 50k this weekend. Have not registered and almost have no desire. I think it's because I feel like I "need" to do it to have one less day with K's parents who are visiting until Tuesday. Or because I don't know anyone going and it's a 2.5hr drive the morning of and it will be 80 degrees. I had so much trouble with the hot races last year; I really don't want to do that to my body. Ugh. But, it's a local guy, only costs $30, and the money goes to the trails.
There is a 50mi in FL on Sat (sold out) that I would have rather done as it was a really neat location. Oh well.

I think I won't go to the race, I've been wanting a break, and if I make myself do it, I might burn myself out for any other potential races that may present themselves in the next couple of months.
So the alternative? Stay home and cook while K takes his parents to the Quarter during the day-potentially making me look like an -or go and it's another full day with them. Sigh.

So, news here on late season planning. I'm dropping B2B off the schedule, but I think I'll pick up FS Half...and I threw my hat in the ring to pace City of Oaks full marathon, hopefully the 3:30 group. That's a 8:01/mile pace. When I last ran City of Oaks in 2008, I went 3:23. Since then I've gone 3:13, 3:15, 3:15 on different courses, so I feel confident a 3:30 will be "comfortable" for a marathon.

That said, the course is not easy and will require some work in the late summer to be ready for an 11/2 marathon. Means runs through August on asphalt, in NC. Oof.

Not real snow (it was too warm at 34) but I had white stuff on my windshield as I left on my bike. Once I got off the hill it was rain and then downtown it was dry - glad I rode.

First track meet of the year - he is doing 100 and 200 - I asked why not the 400 and he said he didn't like their long workouts - I told him life is not about always taking the easy way out and that is what you seem to do an awful lot so you need to do the 400 starting next week! Kids :)

wednesday morning strength and run.  Wednesday's focus is core and balance muscles in the lower body and corrective on the upper body.  Run was good.
goal is to swim either at lunch or after work.  yesterday's swim didn't happen.
Terah made some refrigerator oatmeal w/ greek yogurt, frozen fruit, some honey and chia seeds.  had that for breakfast.  that was good and dense, so didn't each a lot.  that may be the new breakfast food at the house.  She also found some new smoothie recipes that save for several days, again involving chia seeds.  the boys may use that as recovery drink after swim practice.  we may all start sprouting at some point.  Last new thing was black bean brownies.  Made with dark chocolate.  REALLY good.

plank w/ hip abductions x 20
one leg bend and reach x 10 each leg
chest press x 15 w/ 15 lb medicine ball
right side plank x 40 seconds
leg dips x 10 each leg

Decided not to run this morning until I get this minor ITB issue squared away. No pain, but I feel it's best to get some ART or deep tissue work done before I get on the road.

Slow but Steady
Well, today's run pace was a bit slower, but we did NO walking so that was good.
Run felt really pretty good overall, and it was only in the last mile, which was a long gradual uphill did I really feel like I was struggling, and the pace in that mile felt that way.
On the whole though -  good run.  Happy with it.

Progress in the pool.  Hitting 1:35 +/- for the 100's and 3:35 - 3:40 for the 200's.  Still dropping off almost 10 seconds on the 2nd 100 so the speed is coming along, but endurance at that effort isn't there yet.  But, I am happy.

Slept well but had to get up at 4:45 to be at work by 6, and my alarm woke me out of a weird dream.  Feeling a bit sluggish this morning!  Plan is to hit the gym for ST after work if I still have some energy (debatable, since it'll be a 10.5 hour workday!).
