Rest day today -- active recovery only. Zoe helped me out with a long walk this morning and I'll get her out again tonight :-)
Two hour run and strength work on tap for tomorrow and a four our ride on Sunday.
My dad has been sick for the past few weeks.  First he had kidney stones and then a week later, somewhat unrelated but I'm thinking exacerbated by the first thing, bleeding ulcer causing low hemoglobin levels (light headedness, shortness of breath, etc.) and lots of testing. Five days in the hospital. He's home now and will likely have an outpatient procedure but he's getting a second opinion first. Oh, and he has a hernia too. Anyway, he's home now and back on solid food.

7:02am: Not Friday. But - already Thursday. Just a matter of perspective, I guess.
Trainer beatdown plus a 3 mile run(ish). I'm hoping that the running gets easier and makes my body less pissy -- my right hip is achy and uncomfortable. I've started a little hip strengthening routine, which has always helped in the past, here's hoping it comes through again.

Wow, nearly a whole week of no workouts (not counting short strength/yoga sessions). The break has been nice but enough is enough!

We went to a newish restaurant right here in Chatham last night --- its original purpose was to be a tapas bar, apparently they learned that they would have to offer something more substantial if they were going to survive. I had a chicken roulade, which looked sort of like a sushi roll. Steve had the filet, which was pretty diminutive. The food was very good but not filling, and we hit the Hardees drive through on the way home and got some french fries.

Picked up the new gravel bike last night. It's a beautiful shade of what I would call frosted plum, with some little mint colored accents. Depending on the light, it looks either brown or deeper purple. I upgraded or swapped out a lot of stuff from the stock model. Will get a pic or two and post up later.

No ride yesterday, so I moved it today since today was scheduled as a rest day. I know I'm going into Saturday's race a touch undertrained, but at least I got in some high quality efforts when I did ride the past couple of weeks, and I know I finished a hard 25 mile race 2 weeks ago so I have it in me.
Aspen started school today so we're in the midst of all the back-to-school hoopla, and Owen doesn't start until next week, so I am also busy keeping him entertained while half of his buddies are already in school. It's funny - I won the biggest award of my art career on Friday night, and had an awesome show last weekend, and four days into this week I'm reduced to mom duties and haven't even set foot in my studio. Lol. No chance to even maintain momentum from the weekend! It is what it is and I love the chaos that is parenting, but I will be pretty happy next week when I have two kids in school at the same time for two days. (I know, only two days, but I'm trying to think posit[...]

weight continues to trend down SLOWLY but according to my scale I haven't been at this weight or less in at least 60 days. Yes I know scale... Thanks for the reminder....

Sleep was elusive last night - thank you puppies. I actually let them out at 415 with the intention to leave them back in after a bit but laid back down and fell back asleep - woke up at 530 and let them in and fed them. Chris missed the gym this morning so he will be doing his run tonight 1.5 hours.

Dentist this morning - I love how they say - OMG you have great teeth - did you have braces? No. Then watch her struggle to get the floss in and back out. So a replacement of a filling that has lifted out of the tooth and then another cavity between the teeth. My teeth are the new dentist in the practice I saw today said you have to be a really good flosser (which I am NOT) to get those clean enough to not have cavities. Awesome! Great teeth! But at least the polish was a mix of chocolate and raspberry - not terri[...]

Day#004--

I failed to get up for my early morning, empty stomach cardio. I do not know if the new normal is back. My wife was tired and did not sleep well. I finally did get some good sleep. My solution to the cardio was to miss the first hour of work and get the cardio in on an empty stomach.

Last night I did something I normally don't do. I did the dishes. Then I got my food ready for the day, including oatmeal, vegan tacos, protein shakes, etc. Part of what fueled me was swimming with my son yesterday. I feel strong and swollen from the weight lifting, however, yesterday, while swimming I caught a glimpse of my reflection in a window. I looked fat and out of shape. I did not look like a strong guy. It sucked seeing what my wife is stuck seeing every day. I am determined to be better.

1. DB Military - good
2. DB Front Raise - good
3. Upright Row - add weight
4. Rear Delt Fly Machine - almost add
5. Shrugs - Almost add.
