August's totals
Swim: 13h 18m 09s - 44150 Yd
Bike: 42h 28m 45s - 848.18 Mi
Run: 33h 53m 43s - 247.81 Mi

July's totals
Swim: 14h 02m 32s - 40025 Yd
Bike: 46h 37m 30s - 934.56 Mi
Run: 37h 20m 01s - 264.42 Mi

Lost a bit of ground in bike and run due to the race, new Haus sessions, and mini taper. Give or take, I achieved my volume goals with regards to the above monthly totals. The quality has increased. With the quality has come a couple few duds. HIM should be a solid day but the course will be rough so my time may be slowed. I should be good to go though. At 140.6, I am feeling able to get the IM done in the general vicinity. I still feel a bit weak with regards the long swims and bricks. Time will tell about how the bike system and new run sessions have helped.

Rockfish Loop with Pete. The sun seemed so scorching hot that it baked the fields and gave off a steamy fragrance of flowers and cut hay in the air. It reminded me of my childhood when I spent hours in the 10 acres of fields and woods behind my house picking flowers and blackberries. I had that 70s song stuck in my head the entire ride, "Summer Breeze."
Afterwards, we took a nap on the couch, and then got my fall and Halloween decorations down from the attic.  Yes, I know it is a bit early, but we love Halloween!

I just ordered a fatbike!! I'm suddenly not dreading winter as much! I actually bundled up a lot and rode when the trails were semi-dry last winter, but wished I could still get out there when we had fresh snow. I was debating whether I really need another bike, but Nate actually convinced me that it was worth the $ for me to get a cheapo fatbike so I can tool around out there when it snows. Bikesdirect started making fatties this year and they're essentially knockoffs of the name brand bikes, and since there's no suspension I'm not all that worried about who makes it. So, I've got one on order - $699 - can't beat that. Wanted to save the rest of my money for my real bike.

I had a dream last night that it was the morning of my studio workshop and everyone was arriving, and I was totally unprepared. The basement was totally unfinished, there was a pile of hay (like for horses???) in the middle of my studio, I was scrambling around the house trying to find chairs, and I had no eas[...]

I tried to run but my hip was sore so I gave it up.  Hip is a weird thing sometime it hurts a lot other times not at all.  Parents have gone home.  They are like an explosion in my house.  We went to brunch at a place near the wedding venue that I was considering for catering the rehearsal dinner but its probably too fancy although brunch was really good.  Then I drove them by the three hotel options I gave the people I invited.  The venue is really small and will only hold my wedding party.  There is another small hotel about 50 yards away that is a roof over your head but nothing super nice.  I offered to let 2 sets of aunts and uncles and another uncle stay at my place which is 12 miles from the venue.  Of course my NE relatives don't have a lot of money but I don't think its my responsibility to fly my guests down and pay for their rooms?  Is it?  How is it my problem to solve their logistics?  No one ever takes care of [...]

2014 Happy Trails

Longest training run ever. About what I expected today. Mentally and physically exhausted from taking my first born to college. Hips were tight from the 5 hours in the car and it was warm and humid. Hips were tight to start but never got any worse. I was just plain tired. Stopped a few times and laid on benches near the trail for a few minutes, just wanted to sleep.
The last week of runs were not great. Have pretty much resigned myself to the fact that my number one goal for marathon is not happening. Still a glimmer of hope for a PR, but that is questionable as well. Really would welcome some kind of confidence booster, but there as been nothing to hang my hat on recently.

Easy run on the treadmill this morning!  I wish I could run that pace outside this easy.  I can run this fast but typically the HR is up about 10 bpm.

Sleep, wonderful sleep.....of course this means that I will now be running in higher temperatures....but my body was craving the rest.
Well that sucked.  Nothing in my legs.  Achilles both feel like I have a charley horse, ITB tight.  Hips sore....Not doing the half.  I forced myself through the full last year and hated every minute of it.  I am not forcing another race.  Physically and mentally it is not worth the toll it takes just to say I did it.  I don't look at this as being a quitter, I look at it as making a wise choice for my health.
My legs just did NOT have it today in boot camp.  They are definitely on the cranky end of the spectrum.....
Miss Thing heard my decision to switch to the 8K and called me to make sure I was okay.  Had to explain why I am absolutely fine with the decision--she was worried.  So sweet.

-New Adventures-

Returned from road trip yesterday. Such a lazy adventure that at times I didn't even know what day it was! Pelee Island was a waste of time (5hours in ferry & wait time) as there was nothing to see - just residential farmland. No shops or sights. We did some geocaching etc. Pelee National Park was another story. Very beautiful marshlands with a nice boardwalk. Stunning.

We finished the summer off with an evening ride on the Niagara Falls boat and watched the fireworks at the base of the falls.  Very nice way to see fireworks!  And so now ends summer.  My baby starts grade 7 on Tuesday !!??  And having taken the summer off I need to get working.  Fall always marks the return...

I had an awesome race yesterday. I came in 10/32 in my age group! When I got to T1 not even a third of the bikes were gone. This never happens to me.

I also rocked the run. A few girls did pass or stay ahead by my pace was pretty speedy considering my lack of running
