My left calf is sore from yesterday. We did these leg raise things, where you stand up on your toes, let go of the support, and sloooooowly put your heels back down. I didn't feel it at all at the time, but whoa, my calves are talking to me today. I don't have nearly the strength in my feet/ankles/calves that I thought I did.
Many years ago the Giraffe actually had his peroneal tendons cut, and he was in hospital for awhile. For his final bit of rehab, he stood on his injured leg on a wobble board with the therapist threw a medicine ball for him to catch. I thought that sounded kind of fun, and wondered if I'd get to do something like that. In a word: no. Instead, I stood on the board with both feet, trying to have enough balance to let go of the support. Hahahaha. So much work ahead of me!
That said, I am incredibly grateful that my mother works for a podiatrist and has some pull with the therapists. I heard stories of people having to wait weeks for their therapy to [...]

Sister dinner tonight. Yard work today. Outfit planning for our little run away for our anniversary tomorrow. EEEK! Excited to celebrate 26 years with my man!

Vegas is booked for the fall. Got pretty decent deals and I am determined to get to the Red Rocks to hike one day. It is happening. Damn it! :D Of course my niece proposed instead of joining me that they all bring a table, chairs, drinks and just observe me climb. LOL. She is such a nature girl...NOT.

New job is going well though after only 4 days I've identified one individual that I will likely conflict with often.  Sadly we are going to have to work very closely too.  I have a more "let's-find-a-way" outlook and where there's a will - there's a way.  More than once she has had a negative 'can't do it' attitude to a couple of suggestions.  Yesterday they were complaining about how they received so few award nominations last year so I suggested an early bird deadline with a draw for a prize.  Seriously... not big bucks.  And what's the point of having corporate partners if you can't ask them for stuff???  She just sat there shaking her head no... not even willing to consider it.  If you aren't going to try to change the process then it's very likely you'll get the same response this year!  In another situation I asked what they were doing to recruit new graduates in to the organization and she said that was a waste of time - that they [...]

School ends with a half day tomorrow and then my schedule gets difficult, so I'm hoping to sneak out for a good 2+ hour ride today.
Super excited to set a PR on my mountain bike ride last night. I ride that trail all the freaking time, so I rarely get a surprise PR on it. I'm feeling pretty decent about my riding right now, considering I'm coming off of an injury! I hate to admit it, but having Galen force me to ride the road bike has been good for my base fitness - less interval-like than riding a mountain bike 100% of the time.
Packed up my stuff and painted outside this morning. So nice - it's been a while, and I have been dragging about getting into the studio. I'm kind of tempted to go out every day that I have the sitter this summer, or close to it.

Ok last day in Vienna. Beautiful city, great architecture but still a little stoic. But would come back again. Too short of a visit to enjoy everything. Food is not bad but filling. Lots of potatoes! Great dinner with President of Europe subsidiary and big shot work friend and his wife. Lots of wine, beer and food. Time to run. Speaking of running, I have a 1/2 Mary in less than a week. WTF was I thinking? Overweight and under-trained. Typical Ted. 9 hours till Florence.

Another day of gardening. Still not done planting. Forgot how much work it is to jam annuals into the ground! Mostly though, I think its trying to decide where to put what. And I haven't even begun with the partial sun areas. :D Dave removed the "poop" dock. It was the little original janky dock they kids used to fish off of. It was starting to really decay and was...well, ugly. Not he wants to either refurbish the old janky paddle boat my brother bought and has left here since we owned this place or he's asking him to the it. He moved the kayak stand under the deck so the lake view is a bit less cluttered. Me likey!

Didn't swim once again. At least I did some swim cord work in the evening. I think it way be warm enough to swim the lake. Today though, we had another doc appt for the girl before her shelter shift. Praying the medicine she was prescribed mellows her stomach and she can take her full dose of anti depressant again. I don't like seeing her go back down th[...]

Pro Tip for Racing Injuries
Last June, I had a traumatic brain injury during a race. Thankfully, everything is okay, and I have good insurance. Of a $25,000 hospital stay, insurance covered all but about $2,200. I made a claim through USAT's insurer for the difference. The insurer notified me that it would cover all but $210 of the $2,200. This notification was last September. Yesterday, I finally received a bill from the hospital for the $210. Eight months after being paid by the insurer, and almost a year after the injury.
If you don't have insurance, USAT's will act as primary coverage. If you do have insurance, it will function as secondary insurance. Take the time to make the claim. It can save you a lot of money. It saved me over $2,000.
