Rest day! We are rearranging this week as both of the girls are out of town this weekend, so we're doing our long run TOMORROW. Yes 15 MILES on a Thursday morning before work. It's going to suck, but I am willing to sacrifice in order to run with my crew.

Experiencing and Appreciating Life

Saturday is my 8 year anniversary on BT!  I usually miss it on the day, probably because it's Bob birthday and I'm busy doing this away from the computer :

A long morning already...
I brought my clothes and food to work yesterday, in anticipation of my bike ride into work.  I packed my pannier with my getting ready stuff, etc, so all I had to do was grab my phone from the charger and go.  What did I forget?  To look at my bike...
First, I realized that I never installed the new saddle.  Obviously not critical, but I really hate the current saddle and so decided to do it.
Then I realized my back tire (my favorite) was flat.  Fortunately my bike mechanic (husband) was home and changed it for me.  At least I'm getting better at reinstalling the rear wheel!
The bike ride itself was mostly totally lovely.  Cool air, not much wind, etc.   At one point a bird, picking up a worm from the path, did an about face and [...]

Nope, not today either, except for a crapton of walking in airports because it was a travel day. And even though the city is eerily quiet since about six million people have skipped town to go home for the end-of-Ramadhan holidays, it's always a zoo upon arrival at the Crazy Castle! So, I've been busy.
Truth be told I also felt like my head and body could use another day of rest.

I am absolutely fascinated with what people have listed and at what price on Craiglist. In many cases it'd be just as cheap to buy new, but I couldn't help but click to find out what a "banana chair with rocker" and an "Armwar" were.
Weight's down to barely the 160's again.

All I can say is that my conviction that most people are more pleasant under the effect of a general anesthetic is proving to be quite true today.  And Oh GOODY crazy toe lady is on the schedule. I can hardly wait.

I chickened out of the track practice this morning.  Part of me thinks I'm going to make a fool of myself at a track practice when I can't even run a 5K without stopping.. but I looked at the workout and it was not terrible:
Track: 10' Z2  W/U
3 strides
2 x 800 Z4 or TP, Rest 2'
W/D
This was for the easiest plan, the super beginners.  I could've done this... but then what happens when the workouts get harder and I still suck?  I know I'm thinking too hard about this.  I need to just suck it up and go.  Next week?
Also.. back injury and foot injury updates are on my blog

Not too bad.....lost my momentum somewhere on the back half of the run but finished well.
On to the stupidity of the day.  How many weeks of working 12 hour days (and NOT being paid for it) can we tolerate before we break?   I swear they are going to run us all out and then take the call centers off shore to people who have no freaking clue.
I miss my bike.  Maybe this weekend I can sneak out for a couple of hours.

Gym day! Lots of lower body. Did some lunges with a twist (with 5 lb weights for good measure). Abs. Upper body weights.

Today was a "legs" day, but honestly, every day is a legs day these days.

Tomorrow is a tempo run. Gotta get some 5k pace miles in there.

Today is our 9th wedding anniversary.  For fun, I just looked back in my BT log at this date for the past 7 years that I've been logging here (what!  ), and every year I said almost the same thing - that I couldn't believe it had been x years already.  So I won't say that this year!  More like, what a crazy ride it's been these past 9 years!  Wouldn't change a thing, but boy, I never saw any of it coming 9 years ago.  People keep asking me if I'm/we're ready for the baby.  Besides "ready as I'll ever be," my standard reply is that we've had PLENTY of time to enjoy just being married and doing all kinds of fun stuff everywhere we've lived, so we can't wait now to share our really pretty awesome life with a little one.

Trying to Tri

As part of my 10k base building, I've been running intervals in order to shock my body into working a bit harder and faster. This morning, I ran 6 x 1:30 hard intervals with 45 seconds of recovery in between.

I just got back from a two day business trip during which I had not eaten very well. During my warm up, it felt like I was sweating burgers and chicken sandwiches. I've never really paid attention to nutrition, and now I am starting to wonder how I would perform if I incorporated nutrition into my training plan. Warm up: 1.73 miles at 8:54.

The intervals were just what I needed - hard, but not all out. Paces of 7:17, 7:05, 7:11, 7:08, 7:23 (uphill), 7:08. Cool down of about 1.5 miles at 8:30 pace.

I had about 12 ounces of chocolate milk immediately after the run, and then a breakfast burrito of eggs, spinach, mushrooms, tomatoes and mozzarella cheese about a half hour later.

I am pleased with this workout, as the end game here is not to hit a certain pace, but to pre[...]
