Life in San Diego

Took a load of stuff to Goodwill for donation this afternoon. Almost packed for home. Keeping the condo I am renting, for now. I am month to month with the lease, so I will decide later what I am going to do. If something changes with my job (they no longer allow me to work remote in Cincinnati), then I can come back and have it packed up and stuff put in storage. I brought up boxes and bubble wrap I had stored int he garage and have started packing up a few things.

Slowly Slogging Back to Shape

Missed a box jump during class this morning.  I scraped my shin on the bench we were using for them.  Looks like it's the top few layers of skin.  Really a mess.  I'd post a picture, but I don't think anyone wants to see that.  It's pretty nasty looking.

A Nice River Ride
Went down to the Trinity River Trail for my ride this morning.   I really like riding there, as it's out of vehicular traffic, and I can usually keep up a decent pace.  However, this morning on the return portion of the ride, they had the volunteer clean up the trail area brigade going strong.    There were literally hundreds of them, a lot of Cub and Boy Scout troops out doing it, and so they weren't always aware of bikers and runners along the trail, which slowed me down.
The ride felt really solid though.   I felt more solid on my ride this morning than I have in a long time.   I really do think that my training is starting to pay off and I am becoming stronger.
Was a good day all the way around.

Well that was NOT the run I needed two weeks before race day. What a mess. Took first 1/2 at ez pace and then plan was to pick it up in second half. However, the good stuff never came, just bad, slow stuff. Really frustrated. Hip was sore to start and pretty much stuck with me and added to that was a very tight calf (on opposite leg). Really discouraged at this point. Plan is to cut back miles pretty big time in next two weeks and get as rested and flexible as possible and then just hope for the best on race day and hope it is not a turd like today turned out to be.

Bike is getting some TLC at the shop today, and I've got a thousand things to do, so no workout today. Heading down to Cherry Creek to demo at the gallery this morning, then heading to my parents' house to change, meet Nate, then drive up to Loveland for a wedding. Then when we get home tonight, I've got to stay up late and finish a commission.
Typical view from yesterday's ride - switchback followed by a big rock ledge the size of my front wheel and then more craziness. Definitely over my head skill-wise, and there were at least ten of these. Also, every time I ride a trail like this, I wish my bike had more travel - it's only 100 mm and it's great for XC, but not great for the chunky stuff.

BUT, when it wasn't all gnarly, there were some beautiful sections of trail through the forest.

And the views on the way up did not suck.

Now I've got to get back up there and ride to the top of the mountain when I've got a bit more time some day.

Hiking fever has arrived! :) Went out in the woods last night with Fred. So nice to have the paths mowed so we can wander where we want. I've decided that since it's going to be awhile before I can get my feet fixed, I'm going to go ahead and do what I want. I'm going to try using a larger shoe so I can get more padding in it. Actually, I'm going to try whatever I can think of to keep them useable. I don't think I can do any further damage at this point. As long as I don't get them hurting to where I can't ease it at home, I'll be ok. I used the hiking poles last night and they helped take a lot of the pressure off.Did well with nutrition yesterday. Even managed to make somewhat decent choices at our weekly Friday afternoon buffet. (except for that piece of cheesecake that jumped on my plate.) :)Yesterday:Pumpkin protein muffinOats, berries, pp, flaxBBQ chicken breast, sweet potato, yogurt barStuffed pepper, marzetti, salad, cheesecake w/strawberries

When I transferred to the 8K it put me in the training team.  Figured since I spent as much as I did on the half marathon that I would take full use of my fees and go into the training team for the 8K.  From the looks of todays group there are a fair number of seasoned runners  in it, few novice ladies.
No way am I going to stick to such an easy training plan, There is no challenge in it. Might have to make some speed work days and run more.  The training plan is so basic......good for a novice runner but not challenging at all for an experienced one.
Yesterday Thing One lost all her keys.  House, car, dorm room.....John is driving up to Lynchburg this morning to give her a spare car key and have another house key made for her.  Help her get a new dorm key. ****He just texted me, he found her keys, they had been locked in her car.  I am sure that she had a big sigh of relief.
Miss Thing is still asleep, not sure when she got in fro[...]

Love the weather! Going to try to get a longer ride in this afternoon.

-Update-
Weather was great...the wind was not. Man, I hate getting blown all over the place, especially when you're descending.

Crank is loose somehow...I had to stop and tighten it. The whole ride, it still sounded like something was loose in there. Going to give my bike a looksie over to see if I can find out what is up.

Have a longer run tomorrow morning...just going to take it EASY.

Swim was meh this morning.  Not feeling particularly strong and had a hard time maintaining form.  I'm really not feeling as ready for this race tomorrow as I was for the last one.  My training has been a little haphazard and I've been feeling easily winded or nauseated/crampy during most of my workouts in the last 2 weeks.  I don't know what's up; I'll just muddle through and focus on enjoying the lovely weather, meeting other BTers, and having fun at the race expo.  It's weird to realize that after tomorrow, I'll be done with my season.  I've grown so much and made so many connections.  I think the races, while initially my goal, have really become a byproduct of this aspect of my life.  The training gives me a huge sense of accomplishment and my BT friends are such a source of inspiration and support.  I'm so glad I've gotten into this sport and hope to keep going, growing, healing, and connecting.  It's so much better than the las[...]

Group ride this morning. Kind of managed to stay with the front group, but only because they got caught at traffic lights. Starting to think the clipless pedals might be something I need.

Good ride, though. I'm making progress.
