---
Hard effort today around Pope. The goal was to try to keep each lap (of 6.5 miles) at 17:30. I was just off (28 seconds over) that goal. Will try it again another day.

I had hoped to sleep in today but my body is now used to waking at 5:15am so today was no different.  I forgot how busy life can be when you have a 9-5 desk job!  I'm waking at 5:15 to do less than 10K runs so might have to adopt a split 2 runs/day if I am serious about doing a longer run in the fall.  And the rest of the morning is a mad dash.  With lessons and stuff after work and I am still winding down my own business and doing research and showings the evenings are crazy.  I am used to grocery shopping during the day... what a crazy adventure going at night!  And is it just me or are the grocery stores stocking less food on the shelves?  I think there's a trend towards towards local so not everything you want is always available.  No avocados or spinach as an example.  The line ups were insane.

Work is good but there is no acclimation period or training.  I JUST got my system access and am now in the throes of creating [...]

OMG!! A friend brought videos of this same gathering from 1988. Videos of us at the age we think we are now. At least the band is better now. But 30 years of practice should help.. you think. The one of the band is the Suffering Bastards. Quite appropriate. Good thing we have some real musicians playing as well.

So, my boss is awesome -- I was telling him how I was going out furniture shopping this weekend, for the sole reason of catching the Memorial Day sales, and he -- knowing how much I hate crowds and shopping in general -- told me yesterday to leave early and do the shopping on the way home to keep my weekend as free as possible!
And, so I did! I told him my goal was to be in and out of the store within 30 minutes ... I found something I absolutely LOVE (unusual -- I definitely shop towards the "good enough" standard) and it requires special order so it took almost 50 minutes, start to finish. Worth it. And now I'm done with my dreaded furniture shopping!!
This morning I'm headed out to get my car serviced and then I'm going to figure out when would be a good time to hit the stairs, depending on what looks to be pretty fickle weather.

6:32am: Friday! And Friday of a long weekend! That makes me happy.
I've specifically made few plans; even told my family that I didn't want to get together for a BBQ. I have to bring my car in for normal service tomorrow morning, but otherwise the time is for me to do as I wish, and I have a mix of fun and productivity in store.
My Memorial Day weekend list: Get car serviced Shop and buy bedroom furniture (I hate all the people, but there will be good sales this weekend) Write at least two one blog posts Write Write some more Go somewhere with good food and outdoor seating and WRITE READ before the library repo ladies come for me Go to the forest preserve and do the stairs again. Maybe hike, too, while I'm there. Sweep out the garage, maybe even organize a bit (but the organization is optional) Cook something awesome Sit out on my patio with an adult beverage and read/nap/people-watch Maybe take the mountain bike out? READ and WRITE and RELAX.

Yesterday, I was freaking out a little because I wasn't following the plan that I had set for myself. Looking at things realistically, I'm not doing so bad. I quickly figured out that just because it looks good on paper does NOT mean it's going to work in real life. I need to get to the gym once a week for pilates. My body just functions better with it - especially my hips. The bootcamp class is immediately following pilates, so I can easily spend another 30 minutes at the gym. If I go in 30-45 mintes early, I can get my leg workout in. Other than that, I want at least 30 minutes for chest & arms and another 30 minutes for back and shoulders. I want to do them at the gym because I'm more focused there and certainly work more efficiently. I can roll out of bed in the morning, grab a cup of coffee to drink on the way and just get it done. That's it. Everything else, I can do here on the farm. It's really that simple. :)

Not riding today. Just can't justify using the time or energy to go ride three hours and then come home and try to get work done. I'll spend the time trying to get the really dirty part of the pool work done. Hopefully later today, we can turn on the pump and let it start doing some of the work. Right now, I'm just trying to get all of the debris, leaves, and muck off the bottom so it doesn't clog up the filter. It's a tedious process.

Weekend projects:
Get the pool pump up and running
Wash my car
Burn brush still sitting in the back yard
Get the mowing caught up (at least the yards)

Nutrition has been solid all week. Even at our weekly buffet get together, I made good choices. 1st weigh in/measurement day is tomorrow.

Moving time was closer to 1:01 for a 16.5mph average on this ride. Need to figure some things out with my watch, like how to turn on auto-pause! Rode up to The Bike Way via Lake Z and bought a couple of tubes. Then I came back via the north side of Lake Z. Tried setting a PR on the Skutt Straight but the wind was apparently out of the north so I turned around and headed home.

I rarely read or post on the forums anymore but was browsing one day and posted on the gender identity thread.  I thought 'political cup of joe' was supposed to be a place for stimulating intellectual debate/discussion but... not so much.  Of course now I'm sucked in and awaiting the next response.  All in all it just makes me sad.  And also very happy to live in Toronto.  I live in a great little community; the highest concentration of victorian homes in North America but far from a stuffy crowd.  My little dead-end mews has only 20 houses on it and my neighbours include 5 gay couples (both male & female same sex couples) and 15 straight couples of which one is a transgendered male.  I live in a city with a thriving LGBQTIA community and the schools and most public places are shifting to an inclusive gender nuetral environment.  Two blocks from my house is a pool with gender neutral/co-ed changerooms.  Sure there are probably still so[...]

Intended to sleep in a little bit (30 minutes), but the baby alarm clock woke me up just before my new normal time. My body was awake anyway, so I got up.
Easy spin for an hour. It was kind of boring, but ask me again next Saturday, and I bet I'll be pining for such a workout.

Rainy day with nothing to do so the kids and I decided to go visit my Mom. Rained all the way there and all the way home! Yuck.
Leg is not giving me very many problems but it lets me know it is not happy every now and then like when I was going down Moms stairs.
