Trying to Tri

Tried the group ride again and this time was much better. Did not stay with the front group, but did have some riding companions, so at least I went the correct way this time. Pushed it a little more on the hills. At some point, I need to invest in clipless pedals and shoes. Should help a lot.

Decided to get my swim in right after so that I would not miss Michigan's opening game this morning. Drills were okay. Definitely felt tired on the three 100s, although I took the second and third a bit slower, and they felt better.

Great start to the day, and now the maize and blue need to keep the good times rolling. Go Blue!

Just Enjoy the Moment

This week will be my deciding factor for the HM vs dropping to the 8K.  I had to move my second long run back to back against tomorrows  log run so I would have time to do it.....But the thought of 10 miles tomorrow and 6 on Monday is not really appealing.
John had me go with him to drop Oscar off at the vet.  I started crying almost as soon as we walked into the building. I did say goodbye to him.....but I wouldn't pick him up.  Still having a hard time with it.  I know it is the right decision--if he would bite me and I was his person.....he would bite anyone and that was a risk we couldn't keep taking.
Swim felt pretty good on my legs.  Overall felt good too.  Had the pool nearly to myself.  Awesomeness.

  • Yeah, the adventure starts tomorrow and hope to arrive late Sunday night Iceland time (which is GMT, same as Great Britain). Two possible flies in the ointment:

    - It's an incredible coincidence but a post-hurricane storm will be RIGHT OVER Iceland at my scheduled arrival time!! Then the low weakens but hangs around to provide more rain than they've had for weeks it looks like. The sun predominantly comes out again just after I leave! I mean, would you have taken a bet 4 months ago that something like that would happen? What are the odds?? Well, I think I'm prepared for rain but gosh I just hope it isn't raining too much during my tour on Tues nor walking around Reykjavik on Wed.

    Hubby told me a few days ago he didn't want to do Monday's tri, he wanted to focus on his bike for Conquer the Coast.  I was a tad bit disappointed, but truly relieved after an exhausting first week of school with the kiddos.  So today we drove up past Dallas (about a 2.5 hour ride each way) and picked up our packets and he then said maybe we should do it and just drive up that morning.  The drive was not great, soooo much construction and the thought of driving home AFTER a race on a holiday, yeah, we are not gonna do it.  But I DID sign up for a 10K next weekend, one I've avoided because of the summer heat, but my run plan calls for 6 miles, and I was able to do 6 this morning, so figured I might as well.  Looked at last year's results, REALLY  not expecting any bling, ha ha!  Good training for my trail race at the end of Sept. though.  We also signed up for another bike event in November, looking forward to some HILLS!

    Out of the Darkness

    Was going to swim today since I'm running tomorrow and the pool will be closed for Labor Day on Monday.  Had to go to my "backup" pool because my schedule didn't fit with the other ones.  The backup  pool was closed.  Then I went to pick up my bib and shirt for tomorrow's race.  Got a 20% off coupon so I spent about an hour trying on running shoes.  Finally decided on some Brooks only to find out (after standing in line for 15 min.) that the coupon couldn't be used for Brooks.  Oh well.  At least now I know what I like and what size so I can start saving to buy them at full price.  Too bad I can't get them at REI and get a dividend for buying them!
    When I was riding, I noticed that the toes on my left foot tend to flutter, especially on the upstroke.  I think what's happening is that the left leg weakness is translating into a tendency to push on the downstroke but then let the right leg propel the left leg up instead of keeping the[...]

    Next weekend - MS 150 in New Mexico.  I love that ride and the camaraderie of my team.
    Tomorrow - easy riders at 3:00, we're going to do the ALS challenge as a team.  I hope that doesn't scare people away.
    Monday - 5:00 ride with Roger.  I should swim tomorrow as well.
    Skipped the brick run today on Roger's advice.  Today I'll let the leg muscles heal and see if I can run on Sunday.  I laid on the heating pad last night at bed time as well as foam roller. 
    Tonight - dinner with friends, they have a lady friend they want me to meet.  :-)

    Pushed this ride between miles 5-25. Hot, humid, hilly ride.

    Mechanical at mile 26. It happened when I tried to figure out what a creaking noise was. Switched to small chain ring, and my chain just hung there. Then I heard a pop.

    Doesn't surprise me...A week before White Lake and I need to take my bike in. This crap always happens before White Lake. Last year, I took my bike in b/c of a mechanical the week before White Lake, and I didn't get my bike until the night before and it still wasn't right! GRRR!

    This is the latest info from the Chattanooga race director:
    And as far as the bike course goes, yes, it is long. By my calculations 116.08 miles. Its pretty simple actually.... I had signed permits a year ago, and they were revoked for reasons outside of our control. In order to ensure long term success in the market, we had to roll with it and figure it out. We are working on that. I had 24 hours to come up with something, and that something is the course you see online today. I have a 112 mile route in the works but am not sure if I can get approvals from the state level in a few weeks. It will be a fairly large change which obviously creates issues of its own. Athletes have trained on the course for months, and we throw a new course at them now... I get it! We will keep everyone posted.
