"GET TO MILE 18 on the run!"

No stats today. Well, as the saying goes, "the hay is in the barn". Last training day as I'm just going to take the next two days off before the race. Seems to help me anyway to be as fresh as possible before a race. Plan called for a 1 hr Z1 effort biking and I just decided that it was easiest to do this at the gym and on the recumbent. Can't really use the upright stationary bikes as the saddles are uncomfortable after only a little while.

So, except for the heat which I'll deal with on Sunday, feel fairly prepared for this event. I mean I've put in the training, especially the long bricks which were missing from my first Ironman-distance event and know I can run fairly well after the long bike now IF I follow my pacing strategy and can deal with the heat. In addition, even though there's still some question about how to use my power meter, think following the .70 Intensity Factor and try to keep Normalized Power as close to Average Power as possible will work well in order[...]

LBS day today - not one rain drop yesterday - bummer - so I went for a cool hike/walk/run after dinner at the park last night - was a good time for sure! Even if for a couple of minutes I had no idea where I really was besides a good general idea!

8:04am:  I keep thinking it's Friday.  It's not.
Begged off going to my parents' last night.  My Mom is a little annoyed with my relatives because of how they dropped in and are staying at their house, so she was fine with me not being there.  Of course, that means that I won't be able to do the same thing for a late Friday night dinner, but at least it'll be Friday.  Right?
Because I seem to be experimenting with all sorts of diet/weight loss/nutrition things lately, I decided to add another to the list:  DietBet.  You put up money and need to lose 4% of your body weight in 4 weeks.  If you lose the 4%, you get your share of the pot (historically, 1.5x - 2x what you bet).  Worst case, you get your money back (it all depends on how many people reach their goal).  The game I joined starts tomorrow and runs through mid-September.  My 4% is not quite 7 pounds which seems pretty reasonable.  GymPact has been working REALLY w[...]

Probably going to be a rest day.  I thought about getting my Sunday run done today as I had an optional swim on the schedule without a pool to swim in.  I will try to swim tomorrow sometime but not in the am as I have the weeks long run then.
Travel home later today!

Trying to get back into it.  Was burnt out from training for NYC for three years in a row and only running it once (2013).  Really didn't want to do anything since last November.  Ran a little here and there, but nothing consistent.  No riding, no swimming, nothing.
Trying to change that now.  Have been running a little over the last week or so.  Plan to continue it and slowly add in some swimming and riding and lifting.  I would really like to do a sprint or two next summer, but my main focus is just on getting back into somewhat decent shape and having fun.
We'll see....not committing to anything right now...just trying to get back into the swing of things and get on a regular schedule with running.  Will take it from there.

I went out last night against my better judgement, and missed swimming this morning :-(  That makes 3 missed swims, and I had been doing sooo well!!  Part of this is b/c all my lane mates just finished IMMT and I know they won't be there.. but that is no excuse!  Now, the pool is closed for renovations next week, as is the next-closest pool to me, so it looks like I may have to bite the bullet and pay to go on my own (at least once - I can't go 3 full weeks without swimming!).
I am getting my hitch installed tomorrow, but tonight it will be the bike trainer... this is the first day I get to go straight home, no PT, no rehab, no anything, and I can't wait :-)
UPDATE: I totally forgot about swimming at Luray last weekend, so I haven't missed *that* many swims.. phew.  Still, I need to find a way to get in the pool before Labor Day.

Loving my new car today!  Over the past week, I've been wondering if I made the right decision, going from the huge Jeep to such a small car (Eos).  But then, I filled up the gas tank yesterday for only $55 (compared to the $75-80), and that's using the premium grade.  Then, this morning, I drove into work with the windows down and sunroof open, and just LOVED the fresh air (except for the one time I pulled up next to a smoker..yuck!).  I don't normally shower in the mornings b/c I get so hot and sweaty, but since I ran, I had to today.. and the breeze really helped cool me down... and as an added bonus, I was able to put heat on my back with the heated seats.  I have to go to REI to pick up my new bike rack at some point and am getting my hitch installed on Friday.. just have to remember not to open the roof when the bike is on the car!!

The packing went smoothly yesterday.  And thanks to all the packing and moving of stuff we (mostly Travis) did over the last week, they'll only need 1 truck and 3 guys (instead of 2 trucks and 4 guys) to move everything today.  Also shouldn't take as long as they projected.  $ saved!  And apparently Bandit and Nola are such moving pros now that they were not at all bothered by the people packing up their house yesterday.  In the past it would stress them out (and/or they'd be underfoot) so we'd take them to doggie daycare for the day, but that wasn't an option here.  Such seasoned military brats, those two.

Liam is headed to his friends house for the day.  So Alex and I have the day to ourselves.  We are going to do some back to school shopping.  Should be fun yet expensive.  Other than that, not much on the agenda.
