Work a Little Harder

September 19, 2014

The difference between obstacles and adventure is our outlook.
No run this morning. NBD, just pile it into tomorrow . Date night with TW this evening, we're actually going to see a movie in the movie theater on the day it is released. This NEVER happens. The empty nest keeps getting better.

Travel day later. Well, still looking like as long as I finish the race tomorrow, I'll have a podium spot. So, this race will be more about whether I can take an overall place rather than AG I think. Never know who turns out to race, but I'm unfortunately about 8 lbs heavier than just last week! (sigh) Work the entire season to keep weight off and destroy that in one week. Amazing... Well, work to get back in racing form for B2B starting next week.

Hopefully a big silver lining with signing up for this race is that I'll go to the beach and enjoy the afternoon there tomorrow as that's something I haven't done in quite some time, plus it's been a LONG time since I've been to Wildwood NJ.

Well perhaps a bit more later but I probably won't post anything else until after the race tomorrow. Cya!

Sat: RACE! BEACH!

Sun: Still planning long brick probably on 194 or WMRT.

Mon: rest

Tues: start training for B2B Half in earnest!

Holy freakin' THUNDERSTORMS!!!  They started at 1:27am and I got to find out just how freaked out by thunder and lightning Priscilla is... from 1:27am right through to almost 5am I had a trembling ball of fur under the covers of the bed and trying to meld her cute, furry self to my chest and every time I would move one of my arms, she would just try to snuggle further into me.  The poor thing did nothing but tremble for 4 hours, and the thunder and lightning didn't stop for the entire time.  She was a mess, and I was too by the time I got to work due to lack of sleep.  Of course, when the storms were over by 5am and I finally got a couple of hours of sleep, she was all wide awake, perky and wanting to play by the time I had to get up.  Cute little furry jerk!
More Airrosti owiness, but I guess on a good note it's less owiness than last time?  My psoas is WAY less painful than last time, and my QL is somewhat less painful, but I still told the gu[...]

beautiful morning for a ride.  yet another rear flat.  at least i got almost done with the ride this time.  I think it has been a month since i had a ride with out a flat.  The nice thing about having a son in college without his tri bike is that i can take William's rear wheel and put it on my bike for tomorrow's ride.  Then we can see how that goes.  In the meantime i'm taking my rear wheel back to the lbs (yes, the only lbs).
strange run.  was supposed to be 52 minutes w/ 32 minutes of tempo work.  At the 34 min mark the head went light/dizzy and got wobbly legs.  tried to walk it off, but couldn't get back started for almost 16 minutes.  so wobble walked for 16 minutes and then was able to start an easy jog back to the house.  Think this is a reminder to pay more attention to my daily nutrition.  Too many cookies and stuff lately :)

7:03am:  Well, I managed to remember everything I needed this morning to get onto the mill site.  Go, me!
Remember the DietBet thingamabob I signed up for a month ago?  The final weigh-in has to be done between midnight tonight and midnight Saturday.  I'm right about where I need to be -- since my initial weigh-in was in the afternoon, I should be golden as long as I do my final weigh-in in the morning.  Seems like cheating a bit, but technically I'm well within the rules.  So - I didn't really lose the full 7 pounds, but I am down -- legitimately, morning weight vs. morning weight -- about 4 pounds.  And that I'll take.  Now I need to start taking the WLC a little more seriously... :)
Contemplating going and running stairs today after work.  I really enjoyed doing that the other day.  A great workout, a get to be outside and it doesn't pound as much (and hurt as much) as running.

Stats taken after run and before dinner, %water 69, muscle 38.6, bone 4.0. Nothing special tonight, just a nice Z1-Z2 run around Ft D. Tomorrow I leave for NJ for this race but I'm regretting my decision a bit to spend the money for this race as I don't think it will do much for my USAT du rankings since there are only 15 people in the Du. At the moment, if I finish, I at least will get a podium spot as there are only 3 of us in the AG. I've decided afterwards to hit the beach since I'll be close and I don't get to go there that often.

This evening, left glute/piriformis is an issue and hopefully will settle down for the race.

So, tomorrow: travel to packet pickup site, drive the bike course, and get to the hotel.

Sat: RACE! Beach time afterwards

Sun: long, easy brick either 194 or WMRT.

Mon: rest

Just registered Aspen and one of her friends for Take a Kid Mountain Biking Day in a couple of weeks! Yay! I took the two of them mountain biking in Crested Butte last summer and they thought they were the coolest kids ever. It always works better to drag a friend along with us on this stuff - keeps the whining to a minimum. ;)
Back to struggling with commissions today. Blargh.... It was so nice to be outside yesterday!
Hopefully I can get my bike in today or tomorrow to get my derailleur fixed.  BOO! They can't get my bike in until Saturday :( What am I going to do for the next three days?!?!?!? I even called the bike shop I want to buy my new one from to line up a demo but can't get one in my size until NEXT weekend. Waaaahh.... It's gorgeous outside, and I want to ride my bike!! This is the time of year when the weather is awesome and colors are great, and it only lasts a few weeks so I'm all for playing hooky to go hit the trails while it lasts. I can lock myself in[...]
