Morning entry: Hard to believe it’s already July! Pretty soon, fall will be here before we know it. I’ve had a pretty good year so far, except for two injuries. But, life is about setbacks, and how you handle those setbacks. If everything came easy, there might not be much satisfaction from all the hard work we do.

Today, the gym is planned, and I’m looking forward to adding some weight to my routine. I’m taking it slowly this week and next, to ensure that sciatica doesn’t return. Think deadlifts, squats and OH Press are on the menu. Have a great day everyone!

Quote for the day: ‘’Your thoughts become actions. Think good about yourself, and you’ll do good things.’’

EVENING ENTRY: Day 4, SL's 5x5, deadlift, squat and OH Press ...everything went great, and I'm happy to say that this was the first night I could lift over 100 lbs for DL, in 4 months since getting struck by sciatica.

Squat:
75x5
75x5
85x5
95x5
75x5

Deadlift:
75x5
85x5
100x5
105x5
85x5

He might die.  Really, he might die.  Last night, right before bed I get told that freelance working was the only time that Tony's really been happy with his job, and he thinks he might be able to make it work if he goes back to the previous freelancing gigs that he had along with maybe getting a bar tending gig a couple of nights a week.
And there went my ability to sleep last night.  Awake on and off from 2am onward and there went my brilliant plan to get up early and go to the gym.  I was just too exhausted.  BUT, I did tell Tony that he was more than welcome to start freelancing again, as long as he the amount that he netted after putting 40% aside for silly things like taxes and vacation time (and only accessible with BOTH of our signatures) was at least as he makes now.  Needless to say, that didn't go over well - but I don't really give a crap.  The whole reason why we ended up having to pay $6k in taxes last year was because of his [...]

Might do some Max 30 at lunch today then go the gym for a swim this evening.
Headache is back, not as bad as yesterday.  Hope it settles down soon.
I wanted to play in our pool last night after I finished the Turbo Fire video but thunderstorms came rolling through again.  I am OVER the summer storms already!!
Made it to the gum -WOOT!  Got through the swim without any thunderstorms--double WOOT!  Have not done breast stroke in a very long time.  The moment you smack your toes on the lane line on a breast stroke kick--yeah I had that moment.  How I managed to keep the verbiage used as family friendly is pretty impressive.  It's bruising nicely.

Another day of jam packed swim lessons. Got them all to put their heads under water today Woo Hoo! Had a couple who were really afraid so this was a big deal. Had my kids join the 2 older lesson kids and we ran a little swim team type practice :). They worked hard and I think had fun. DD screamed at me in frustration a lot because "I already know, I'm on swim team." But she still has a lot of room for improvement with her stroke so zip it and listen to your Mom! The reality about swim team is she is swimming lots of laps but she is in the slow/less experienced lane.  Head Coach is working with the more advanced kids in 3 other lanes. Coaches helper is only working with the boys in the boy lane. DD's lane is supervised by 2 high school swim team kids, just not the same level of instruction. No one is correcting her stroke mistakes so I guess it is up to me. DS's stroke looks really good. Wish he would join swim team!

Trying to decide between power yoga (4:30) and Jillian Michael's circuit training class (5:30) today for my strength training.  I'm leaning towards the power yoga, but need to get in a run before the class and not sure what time I can get out of work today (and not sure how fast these classes fill up - the popular classes like spin, you need to get there 30 min prior to secure your spot).  I guess I'll see how the day goes.  I should've done my run this morning, but didn't get my plan together until it was too late.

So happy to start July off with a peach square! I don't know if the weight loss is what is making it easier to walk faster, or if perhaps my general fitness has gotten better. Either way, it is nice to see.

And now I'm organizing the BabyGate team baby shower. Again, with my VP not being a planner I was like "hey you had talked about doing something for them at our team meeting next week - can I help?" Oh yeah, nothing has been done, do you have any ideas? And that is how you get roped into planning a shower for 3 expecting parents in just a few days :)
It won't be that bad, I am just collecting money and coming up with a decor theme (all three are having boys so that should be easy enough - we are thinking cowboy/western/baby boy round up theme. Apparently they have a bunch of western decorations left over from some previous cheesy meeting). My gals in OKC are going to do the gift shopping and set up a room for a surprise. People are being pretty generous so each expecting parent will probably get around $200 in stuff. Nice!

Of course I didn't do anything last night, after a two hour dinner plus a long phone call with the husband (who is out of town).  Today I only have plans with myself, so lots of good things will come I am sure.  I did bring my running clothes and plan to run right after work.
---
I just decided and signed up for a sprint tri in 6 weeks.   I am hoping that going a little old school will help me get back on track with fitness. The sprint training plan seems excessively easy, so I should be able to do that plus some of the other gym classes I am interested in.      My goal is to take the schedule seriously and make it a priority to fit in the workouts.

It's going to be another busy day at work but you know I'll be slipping out to swim at lunch time.

Lunch swim really made the afternoon better. Something about getting a workout in teh middle of the work day resets my mind and puts me in a much more positive, receptive frame. Of course, I was 45 minutes late but fortunately where I work, that's not a huge issue.

Weather permitting, on Friday I have an opportunity for open water swim at Lake Springfield --- a local Ironman studette, Patty S, invited Mary and me to meet up and do a "big training day". Robin's 3 things made me realize how fortunate I am (and all of us here on BT, really) to have the opportunity to pursue the sport of triathlon.

I was poked a bit yesterday for missing my Bachelorette update and getting deep. Well here it is peeps.  We did not do shots during the show and was that ever a good idea. The game is to pick a word and take a shot anytime that someone on the show says that word. And a shot when someone makes out with someone else. The word would have been "intimate", and I would have been floored by the halfway point.  I can't believe the workout that poor girl's tongue is getting.  I got news for you, if your "go to" move for any dead spot in a conversation is to make out, you may be making out a lot in the future. Because at points in any conversation, there may be some quiet time. That is the part where people are thinking. It happens. Get used to it. Oh yeah, one other thing. I am about done hearing these people talk about chemistry. Not a one of these folks has ever gotten an "A" in a science class, so I'm not counting on help from any of them on any chemistry questions! &nb[...]
