Trip home....very eventful to say the least!
We went downstairs at the hotel for a last walk around the pools, a quick last drink...back to our rooms  running up 5 flights of stairs.  Only to find we arrived about 20 seconds after our keys had been deactivated.  The housekeeping lady had to let us in to get the luggage!!
The porter helped us get our bags downstairs and we wanted to eat before the transport bak to the airport--but all the restaurants were closed and the kitchen hadn't delivered anything to the snack stand.  So, we climbed into the van and headed off to the airport.  Got checked in and grabbed burgers at a stand.  Not great, but not bad for airport food.  We sat at the gate waiting a while for the plane....Now in PV airport it seems like multiple gate announcements are made simultaneously.  SO, we had this going on and the fact that it was all in Spanish first so it was chaotic, but we were [...]

My body is just plain tired. I feel like everything is sore, and I've got no energy. It's weird, because I don't feel like I've done anything extremely epic this week, but I think mountain biking takes it out of me more than road biking, and it's also cumulative from a few good weeks of training.
I was pretty bummed this morning to not be at the start line of the Half Growler. All my buddies were there and posting pics on Facebook and I was *so* wishing I was with them about to race. Luckily, Nate was nice and knew I'd be bummed sitting around at home, so he came along with me to ride Little Scraggy at Buff Creek, since I wouldn't feel comfortable riding out there (techy, no cell service) alone at this point. We had fun - I wish he would ride more often! He stopped at about 3.5 miles out and kept going to the end of the trail on my own, then picked him up on my way back. My legs were dead though. Even after attempting a nap when we got home, I'm dead tired. You'd think I went[...]

So a few people have asked me in personal messages how and why I disappeared from the BT community for 3 years after having been such a huge part of it since 2005. The simple answer: drugs. I was dealt a tough hand in late 2013 with an autoimmune disorder of the brain which caused my immune system to attack my eyes. I had large black spots in front of me at all times, making it almost impossible to work out. I wasn't able to drive. Being the Type A person that I am, I looked for some other way of keeping myself busy. I started going out with friends who were not athletic so I wouldn't be reminded of the fact I couldn't work out. Thus, I started a short but destructive relationship with methamphetamine. I was high for almost a month. My relationship ended, I moved out of Florida to DC where I was homeless for two months. Upon realizing I was gonna die if I didn't do something, I picked myself up and moved to Provincetown, MA and got two jobs and stayed with a good friend until I could g[...]

Hard effort today around Pope. The goal was to try to keep each lap (of 6.5 miles) at 17:30. I was just off (28 seconds over) that goal. Will try it again another day.

So, my boss is awesome -- I was telling him how I was going out furniture shopping this weekend, for the sole reason of catching the Memorial Day sales, and he -- knowing how much I hate crowds and shopping in general -- told me yesterday to leave early and do the shopping on the way home to keep my weekend as free as possible!
And, so I did! I told him my goal was to be in and out of the store within 30 minutes ... I found something I absolutely LOVE (unusual -- I definitely shop towards the "good enough" standard) and it requires special order so it took almost 50 minutes, start to finish. Worth it. And now I'm done with my dreaded furniture shopping!!
This morning I'm headed out to get my car serviced and then I'm going to figure out when would be a good time to hit the stairs, depending on what looks to be pretty fickle weather.

I had hoped to sleep in today but my body is now used to waking at 5:15am so today was no different.  I forgot how busy life can be when you have a 9-5 desk job!  I'm waking at 5:15 to do less than 10K runs so might have to adopt a split 2 runs/day if I am serious about doing a longer run in the fall.  And the rest of the morning is a mad dash.  With lessons and stuff after work and I am still winding down my own business and doing research and showings the evenings are crazy.  I am used to grocery shopping during the day... what a crazy adventure going at night!  And is it just me or are the grocery stores stocking less food on the shelves?  I think there's a trend towards towards local so not everything you want is always available.  No avocados or spinach as an example.  The line ups were insane.

Work is good but there is no acclimation period or training.  I JUST got my system access and am now in the throes of creating [...]

OMG!! A friend brought videos of this same gathering from 1988. Videos of us at the age we think we are now. At least the band is better now. But 30 years of practice should help.. you think. The one of the band is the Suffering Bastards. Quite appropriate. Good thing we have some real musicians playing as well.

Intended to sleep in a little bit (30 minutes), but the baby alarm clock woke me up just before my new normal time. My body was awake anyway, so I got up.
Easy spin for an hour. It was kind of boring, but ask me again next Saturday, and I bet I'll be pining for such a workout.

Not riding today. Just can't justify using the time or energy to go ride three hours and then come home and try to get work done. I'll spend the time trying to get the really dirty part of the pool work done. Hopefully later today, we can turn on the pump and let it start doing some of the work. Right now, I'm just trying to get all of the debris, leaves, and muck off the bottom so it doesn't clog up the filter. It's a tedious process.

Weekend projects:
Get the pool pump up and running
Wash my car
Burn brush still sitting in the back yard
Get the mowing caught up (at least the yards)

Nutrition has been solid all week. Even at our weekly buffet get together, I made good choices. 1st weigh in/measurement day is tomorrow.
