Slowly Slogging Back to Shape

What do you do when you wake up at 5:30 and can't get back to sleep?  I guess you go for a run?
My co-worker is running at least 1 mile for 100 days.  It seemed like a good way to get back in the habit of training.  I was planning to start on 9/1, but I think I'm starting today instead.
I also have runs to do for the Hogwart's Running Club: Sorcerer's Stone 5k Chamber of Secrets 10k A Walk in the Moonlight 5k Platform 9 3/4 9.75k
My total distance to catch up on that is: 29 3/4 k or 18.5 miles.  I'd really like to finish that by the end of September.
Yes.  Yes, I am a huge nerd.  I actually registered late for the first three, so I'm going to work backwards on the list.

Life in San Diego

I had such a wonderful time with family. It was great!!!! My sister and niece were in town. Fun seeing my sis 6 months pregnant with my niece to be. wonderful being with my parents. Spent lots of time with my grandparents. Had a fun day shopping and eating with my two aunts. Great time. Already missing them. My dad dropped my off in Louisville this morning around 10. Checked in to hotel (Galt), checked on to race, and picked up bike from tribike transport.

Tammy checked me in. She is such a great person. I can tell she is loving volunteering this year. Going to meet up with her for dinner.

Meeting up with some of the E2 (Cincy/Dayton) tri team soon.

So excited to race! Hot and humid!! Wow - San Diego has spoiled me. Ready for #10. No time goal - just plan to finish with a smile. :-)

Work a Little Harder

Nothing on tap for today, which is nice. The niggling in my ankle has dissipated a bit, but is still there. Odd feeling, to say the least.
Ouch, yesterday's caloric intake was a bit much, ya think. Maybe stopping at McD's at 10:00 pm when you  are on your way home from a late night at work is NOT a good idea!

I have a 'Run' planned tonight. I'll get out as soon as I get home from the office - before the sofa sticks itself to my arse.

Bike Cleaning.

I've got MEH's salsa chicken recipe in the crock pot! Just chicken breasts and a jar of salsa on low all day, shred in the crock pot when I get home. I used green salsa because I'm obsessed with it, and might add in some black beans before wrapping in corn tortillas tonight.
Debating doing my last 4-mile run for the week TONIGHT (in the heat again, and mere hours before our 5:30 a.m. start tomorrow morning) or wait until SUNDAY. I know I'll be a bit sore Sunday, but is the rest more important on the day before or after my long run? I kinda want to get it out of the way tonight, but don't want it to affect the 16 miles tomorrow.

Going to a funeral today of a friend who shot himself Monday morning. Suicide. I cannot imagine thinking that life is so bad that the ONLY alternative I have is to kill myself to find peace. I hate that Dee felt that way and that he choose that option. A long term solution to a part time problem. No one knew. I did not know and I am sorry that I did not. It's funny, cause Monday I was driving to Nashville and I was not picking up any radio stations, so I called people to talk too. I though about calling Dee. I now know he would have never answered...

RIP Dee!

"GET TO MILE 18 on the run!"

Less than 48 hours now!

Made it to my first hotel last evening after 8+ hours of driving. Next 2 days are race prep days with most of it being today. Heat's not on yet and it may actually storm today! Personally, I'll take heat and dry over trying to do this length of a course in stormy conditions. It's really not a lot of fun being on a bike for many hours when it's raining and storming. The run's a bit different story but it's still kinda tough doing a marathon in the rain as well. At least it's usually cooler ;)

Well perhaps a bit more later as I'm going to take some pics too. More likely more tomorrow.

So I accidentally reported my son for credit card fraud!  I saw some suspicious charges on my card and foreign transfer fees so called to report it thinking that it was a result of my Internet spending habits.  The lady told me that the charges were in the Philippines.  AFTER my card got closed, I remembered that my son went to Malaysia for the weekend AND that he is still jointly on my credit card.  I put him on my card when he was little to help build his credit and for use for gas and expenses while in high school and college.  But he has not used it in years since he has his own now, and I totally forgot he was still on my account.  Apparently his own Visa did not work in Malaysia, so he used our joint card and didn't think to tell me.  Ah well, it is probably a good idea for me to have a new card anyway, since my old one has been used so much all over the Internet.  All's well that ends well.

The run this morning MOSTLY felt good even with 85% humidity and 30C/92F at 6:15am...  the only thing that didn't feel good was my right foot.  I'm STILL having troubles finding a pair of shoes that I like and that won't rip my feet apart.  Only 2 new blisters this morning, so I guess that's good?
It's POSSIBLE that the motorcycles will be delivered today... along with the helmets we ordered, which is great, but I still don't have any of my other gear, so even though I'm REALLY going to want to take the bike out for a spin, I won't be able to.  POUT!
In lieu of a super-awesomely-fun motorcycle ride I'll go do a swim workout.  Yay.

Life won't wait forever

7:37am:  Friday!  Tired this morning... Belle wanted to sleep with my roommate, so I took Clarke.  I had forgotten how much he wants to be RIGHT NEXT TO YOU.  As in, on top of you, mostly.  Not a good night's sleep, but he's so damn cute it's forgivable.
Workout this afternoon and then I'm supposed to be heading out for dinner with the family, but I haven't heard any sort of details yet.  With any luck, perhaps they decided against it?  I'd really like to stay home, relax and go to bed early.
I've been doing a lot of thinking about finances lately ... retirement, in particular.  I'm going to have to up my savings in my non-401k account to be able to retire before 59.  Also been trying to figure out if there's another way to make money while still keeping my day job -- that would help expedite the whole retirement thing.  See, this is what happens when I go on vacation:  I realize that I have little interest in working [...]
