My foot.. my poor post-surgical foot.. hurts more now than ever before, and I just don't understand why.  Physical therapy last spring/summer helped a lot, but she said that we reached a plateau and she couldn't do any more for me.  I wonder if it's the weather, and maybe I just need to revisit PT?  I really liked my therapist, so I would be happy with this.  I guess I'll make an appointment with my orthopedic surgeon to discuss options.
While I'm at it, I may as well make a chiropractor appointment for my back.  I really liked the last place I went, but don't feel like dealing with the PT nonsense (which.. for my foot, PT worked; for my back it was just annoying).  A few years ago I saw a chiropractor not too far from my house and I cannot remember why I stopped going to him.  I think life just got in the way.  It might be time to revisit that.  If something jumps out at me that reminds me why I stopped going, I can always stop a[...]

Working late today (6ish), so I didn't have to be in til 9.  "Slept in" til 5:30, which meant an almost uninterrupted 8 hours of sleep (did wake up briefly at some point, thinking it was Saturday -  - but then fell back asleep quickly once I realized it was not), then went to the gym and was able to get a little longer workout in than usual, then went back home to shower and eat breakfast with Travis and spend a little time with Chase before I had to leave.  Definitely made for a nice relaxing morning, though it'll be a drag on the other end.  Hip is back to its cranky usual self today...even before the aborted lunges it wasn't feeling great.

3x10: squat to overhead press, incl chest fly, bentover dead row, sumo deadlift high pull, bicep hammer curls, lunges, overhead triceps extension; 3x (20 ex ball weighted crunch, 20,15,10 ex ball pushups, 20 russian twists)

Only did 1 set of the lunges because those bothered my hip. Squats & sumo deadlift were f[...]

My mom is going to have surgery for her pancreatic cancer. Originally the cancer was too large and was in a location that surgery was not an option. Her body has responded very well to the chemo and the radiation and surgery is now an option. She is scheduled for the Whipple procedure on March 24th. Big surgery, but worth it. I will be going back home and working remote for at least a month.

I heard birds singing this morning walking Felicity over to daycare. YAY! Spring is coming!!
Even if we are in for a dump of snow and two cold days.
Had a monster tantrum to deal with this morning - she was very proud of herself for trying to wear a shirt as a skirt and getting her legs through the head hole.  She did NOT want to change.  It was pure toddler torture.  I knew it would be.  I got Darren in, we got the pants on and straight into the snow suit so we wouldn't go back to no pants.  Terrible two's start early.
Though, honestly i am not upset that she is a little willful. Overall she's great, and I do want her to develop into her own person ... and i know the tantrums are not personal.

We've got a little freezing rain going on, but I don't care, I'm heading out on the snowshoes. Sounds like it's going to be a mess weather wise over the next couple of days with a mix of everything. Heavy rain this afternoon and snow again tomorrow. The county just south of me is looking for another 10-12 inches. We're looking at another 1-2. I'm ok with that.

Tried out my new laptop table on the treadmill last night. Thanks Laura for the link. I could be waiting roughly forever for Fred to make me one, so it's really nice having something I could put together myself and use the same day. It's nothing fancy, but just enough to hold a laptop securely. In case you're curious: http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B001M04RBK/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o...

ROCKED nutrition yesterday. Used common sense on workouts. It was a good day. I'm still sore from snowshoeing. I have a massage later and I'm going to make her do some feel good stuff to go along with the tortu[...]

Here is a status report after a good month of exercise and diet.
Today, my weight is up to 164.  I try to guess my weight before getting on the scales every morning.  My guess was 162.6 or 162.8 today.  I think I understand the main factors that influence it up or down a few tenths: a salty meal, more or less water to drink especially late in the day, travel or something affecting the normal poop schedule.   My guess was an increase of 1.6 over the previous day reflecting that I ate two slices of pizza at a party yesterday and was driving yesterday at the normal time for a constitutional.  The actual change of +3 pounds was still a surprise.  Other than the pizza which might have been 600-659 calories, the day was good for diet and exercise.  I would not think the pizza alone would have put me into positive calories for the day, certainly not 3 pounds.
I have lost this same 10-15 pounds so many times I should know that the daily dynamics of weig[...]

February Books

Books that I read last month Red Queen by Victoria Aveyard The Girl with a Clock for a Heart by Peter Swanson Station Eleven by Emily St. John Mandel Perfect Lies by Kiersten White The Miniaturist by Jessie Burton Cotillion by Georgette Heyer Never Never by Colleen Hoover
The best books that I read this month were Station Eleven, The Miniaturist, and Cotillion. Among the others, Red Queen was a good opening to a trilogy and The Girl with a Clock for a Heart is sort of along the lines of Gone Girl.
Station Eleven was on several “Best Books of 2014” lists. I loved St. John Mandel’s writing style.  The book flowed beautifully.  I enjoyed how each of the character’s story unfolded.  I would recommend it and I don’t want to say too much about it except that I found it difficult to categorize.  I went with dystopian, mainly because I was already using that tag, post-apocalyptic might work.  I wanted [...]
