I am thinking the long run build is the reason I suck in the week after. I hope I'm still doing enough to get through the marathon...   Next week is the BIG WEEK I've been anticipating for these several months.  5 - 10 - 5 - 20.   I am taking a day off to do the 10 (yes, really) and will nail the 20 for sure. The question is:  Will I do two 5s? I am thinking my goal will be 3-5 and just see how it goes.  It's still July and hotter than crap.

Rest Day.
Yesterday was a blast. I burned my shoulders pretty bad, despite regular and copious application of supposedly waterproof spf 50. Even still, the lake was nice. Warm, but still cool enough to be refreshing from the 90 degree temps. It was really strange to not being able to see anything. I put my head in, and for just a moment, was nervous. The first lap along the outer buoy line (where lifeguarding ends and boats begin) I was anxious. Every little swirling eddy was full of tentacles or monsters or terrifying tides that would come and get me. But once I got past that, it was all just swimming. I can see how if you didn't have your swimming skills locked into your muscles, it would be an issue. I spent all my time focused on sighting and dealing with wakes and sunglare, I can't even imagine how terrifying all that would be while also having to actively think about my stroke.
I wish Lake Anna were closer. I would swim there all the time! I swam for about half an h[...]

Man, i did not want to wake up for swim this morning. I was a little confused as to why my alarm was going off when it was still so dark. It took a full minute to remember I had swim this morning. Then it was laying in bed debating about going to swim. Ultimately, i was awake enough and i wasn't going to get that much more sleep. So i woke up and i pretty much had everything ready.
Still a little groggy - got a venti iced coffee on the way to work Hopefully it helps.

HAPPY FRIDAY!!
I absolutely, completely, 100% did NOT feel like running this morning.  At all.  But I figured I would start & it would probably get better & I'd start to enjoy it after I shook out the legs a bit... I was wrong.  WRONG!   Not enough sleep, stress over my dad (he had his latest CT & ultra-sounds yesterday, but no news yet), thinking about life in general, moving, etc.... and Tony decided Chipotle would be  good idea for dinner.  And we ALL know that's just not something that I should be ingesting for at least 2 days prior to any run.  But, it was either that or chicken tenders for dinner, and the barbacoa burrito bowl just sounded too good to pass up.
Don't judge.

Easy swim to keep loose before the race. That open water will be a whole different animal . . . other than visibility/sighting, I'm feeling pretty good about it, though.
I think I can beat my time from my first race, even though this race is slightly longer. But, it's also my first race in over a year, and my first in open water. My primary goal is to have fun and get a feel for racing. If I beat my first time, that will be a cherry on top. Bring on Sunday!

Woke up early and got out the door at 4:15 for a jog. I checked the weather app just in case, and it said t-storms were happening NOW. Hmm...it was pretty clear although the stars were hidden behind clouds. Lots of puddles on the road and heat lightning in the distance. It rained just a little in the last mile, which felt lovely.

Work is crazy busy right now and I'm kind of working my regular job in Marketing doing graphics and then working with the IT group on a big Sharepoint migration. I love the IT work, the black/white nature of it. Maybe i've worked too long with my micromanaging, wish washy boss (don't get me wrong, he is a very nice individual, but nitpicks everything).

DD called last night, one of the toilets in her newish house (she bought it in December) seemed to be leaking. We went over and Steve looked it over but said it's a plumber job. Ugh...

0-60 workout. 2 sets of:
10 burpees (modified; hands on weight bench, not floor)
20 squats
30 alternating lunges
40 jumping jacks
50 crunches
60 second plank

May have done 10 extra alternating lunges in the second set. I lost count of whether I'd done 10 or 20 and figured I'd assume the lower number. Burpees felt a little easy. Coach had told me to use a step and we don't have any in the house. I opted for the set-up weight bench instead of using it folded flat out of an abundance of caution. Arching my back scares the crap out of me (that's what caused the herniated disks back in 2011) and I worry that I'll get sloppy and get hurt. The 50 crunches more than made up for how easy the Burpees felt!! However, contrary to my predictions, this workout didn't kill me.

Oh, parents, parents, parents. Dad is worried about finances and instead of getting rid of things, he's "trying to get his new business off the ground." Ummm, that doesn't exactly solve the immediate cash flow situa[...]
