High Altitude

Crunch time on the studio this week! I'm picking out paint colors, cabinets, trim, etc etc. Fun, but distracting me from my real job, which I really need to get to since I have NO inventory right now in the studio. I actually think we'll have it all done for my workshop next week, except for the flooring and bathroom. I'm going to stain the concrete floors myself in the studio section, and I don't think I'll have enough time for them to dry, so I'm going to wait on that until after.
In other news, my fatbike ships this week. Woot! I asked Nate if he'd put it together when it shows up and he informed me that he's going to make me do it so that I'll learn something about how to work on bikes. I'm down with that. I'm completely useless with my bike - I can change a flat, lube my chain, and set the sag properly on my suspension, and that's about it. I'd like to have someone show me how to make adjustments to my derailleurs and brakes, so I know how to do it when I'm out on the trail an[...]

6:53am:  Jury duty this week.  I don't have to go in this morning, so I'm working from home -- I will have to call in at noon to find out if I have to report for the afternoon session.  I don't mind jury duty -- it's a nice change of pace, I suppose -- though I wouldn't mind if I don't actually get chosen.  It'd be nice to just work from home all week and not ever have to go in...
Slept really poorly last night.  Felt like I was up every hour or so and I'm definitely feeling it this morning.  I'm desperately trying to resist the temptation to take a nap ...
Workout after work (or jury duty later).  Supposed to be an interval workout -- we'll see if the weather is tolerable enough (for me) so I can go outside and run.

Had my bi-annual echocardiogram first thing this morning.  Get the results next week when I go back to the cardiologist for my annual check-up.  BP= 129/75.
Mulling whether to swim or run after work today.  Schedule thrown off with the short week.  Legs still a bit sore, so leaning more towards a swim.

Comtemplative

So got up at 5:45, got dressed went for a little run. About 3.5 miles in I tweaked my knee.  I was just STRAIGHT AHEAD RUNNING!!!!   WTF???  Seriously I can't win.  I think the Hokas are bad for me. They just have zero stability.  My hip and ITB have been twitchy since I got them so even tho they are super comfortable I guess its Asics for me.  So after that I biked on the trainer then took a shower and did strength stuff. I had toyed with the idea of sneaking in a swim but it makes me so nervous when I am on ER call to do that.  I will swim Weds-Fri-sat.  Because my partner was so nice to change the call schedule without telling me my whole week is upside down training wise.  ER call today and thursday.
Got some good biking done yesterday but it was bloody HOT.  105 when I finished but at least I didn't get rained on 4 times like last time.  When it rains it turns the train into a steam bath.  You can see the steam c[...]

Not much, but I got back in the pool today.  Will see how the shoulder does after few sessions like this before I really try to work on building back my swim fitness.  Hope to do a short run this evening.

Thought I set my alarm to get up for a run, evidently my clock is messed up.  Off to work I go.
WooHooo!! My fitness center access has been fixed!  Very cool, the center down the street has a TRX I can use too!!   They have added some toys to this one including a few BOSU balls, more kettle bells, more bands and steppers.
We found several things at Whole Foods the other night that are not in the general public grocery stores.....We found a tofu based sausage that we had in dinner last night.  On its own the texture is quite different from regular sausage--but as part of beans & rice you really don't notice the texture.  It was pretty good.  I also found a tofu "chicken strip" that was prepared on the salad bar.....bought some when I saw it packaged.  Forgot to heat it up to put in my salad today so I heated it up to eat on its own. Would not fool a meat eater on its own, but as part of a salad or meal you might not realize i[...]

Will work on backlogging later.  The 4-day weekend was great and much-needed...but I still wasn't ready to go back to work this morning!  I know it won't be for much longer, though.  But hopefully long enough to tie up some important loose ends that became high priority items within the last week.
In the meantime...as much as it kills me, scaling back even more on strength training this week.  I always feel great doing it and have already modified my usual routine quite a bit, but still have found my lower back to be in a lot of pain in the late afternoon, evening, and overnight following a strength workout for the last few weeks.  I know I won't lose that much if I just cut it out altogether for the next several weeks, but since I really do enjoy doing SOME weight lifting I'd like to keep doing even just a few basic movements with light weights, so we'll see how I feel after the modifications I made this morning.

3x10: ex ball wall squats, ex ball torso[...]

Starting over

All the kids are in school! I was able to get to the grocery store by myself. It's the small things that make me happy.

Our deep freezer crapped out the other day. So today I am making a turkey and a huge pot of chilli. I will be grilling chicken and pork chops soon too. I hate to lose all the meat but geez, I've been cooking for two days straight and I'm tired of it. Oh well. Better to cook a butt ton than lose money.
