2014 - the year of bat-wing crazy

Well, the eating didn't go super, but I didn't make HORRIBLE choices. I only took 2 cookies instead of the whole container my friend brought for me. I ate a healthier soup instead of fries with lunch. I didn't earn nutrition points, but it could have been worse.

As far as the swim. Well, I was getting bored of not kicking and it sucked that the first 1000 meters were fins-on work. So I put my fins on and got to work, but then later in the session my foot started to hurt, so I got out early. That'll teach me. :( I need to be patient. I need to be patient. I need to be patient.

In other news, I picked my spring marathon - Rock & Roll DC Marathon in March. They were running a sale through yesterday so I went ahead and registered. Yes. I registered for a marathon while I'm still in a boot. It made perfect sense to me.

Breakfast - breakfast sandwich (SLIP #1), banana, coffee
Lunch - chicken salad, trail mix
Snack - apple
Dinner - creamy baked chicken, cauliflow[...]

I am the reason Brad will quit triathlons!

I really did not want to run this morning, Heck, I really did not want to get out of bed this morning, but I knew I needed too. I was a little concerned about it cause I slept horribly last night. I even got up at one point and went downstairs to watch ray Donovan and Boardwalk Empire. Nothing makes me madder than lying in bed and not being able to fall asleep, so I went to bed around 12ish last night. My run overall went fairly well, although I am going to quit classifying them as good runs, bad runs and so on. I will only say that I achieved what I wanted to on this run. So let's hope that tomorrow goes as well!

can anybody else see this?

Trying to Tri

This morning I was so tired I decided to skip my run and get some sleep. Slept hard for another hour, which helped immensely. As I had not taken a day off in 10 days, I thought about taking a day of total rest. But, when I got home, I decided to get my tempo run in anyway.

Temperature was decent (for Texas), in the low 90s. First mile at tempo was spot on, at the slow end of my goal pace. Second mile was a bit faster. Third mile was harder, and I thought I might not make it, but I did. Last mile at tempo was the same deal, came in at the bottom of my goal range.

All in all, it was a decent run, particularly in light of having done the hard spin class yesterday. Hopefully, these tempo runs will pay dividends for my race in November . . .

Dreadful night, and surely not going to be a great day.  I was WIDE AWAKE from about midnight until close to 4am.  I had the good sense to turn off my alarm clock (no swimming this morning), and slept until 5am, but stayed in bed drifting in and out of sleep until almost 8am, and then had to race to get to work.  Then... I have to leave in 15 min to go to the dentist to get one new cavity filled (thanks, invisalign) and another filling redone.  AWESOME.  I have my Vo2 max test at 5pm today (luckily I remembered to bring my bike with me today), and will then have to fight traffic to meet my mom for dinner in Maryland.
Not sure what kept me awake last night.  I had a glass of wine and took 2 melatonin... and when I woke up at midnight, I actually felt like I'd slept a lot longer and was SHOCKED to see how early it was.  At 2am, I took 2 unisom, but that didn't really seem to help.  So obnoxious.  My back hurt all night - a lot [...]
