Subject: Safe Open Water Swims in Houston

Hi all,

I am relatively new to Houston and I am looking for a safe place to practice my open water swim in preparation for the Dallas Tri on Oct 11th. Any recommendations? If there are any hazards please let me know because like I said I’m totally green. This will be my first open water swim so any advice you could give me on making the transition from pool to open water would be very useful as well. Thanks!

Welcome to BT and Houston. A group of us meet at Lake 288 (south Houston) on Sunday mornings and in this case this afternoon after work. The lake is very clean and the water is clear. It cost 7.00 dollars to swim there per visit, and it is not open to recreational swimming, only scuba and swim training so make sure you bring jammers or tri shorts and leave the board shorts at home.

Hope to see you out there.
