Subject: RE: swallowing air while swimmingThe more comfortable you become in the water, the less this will be an issue. Be sure to exhale fully with your face in the water and don't try to breathe in and out when turning to breathe. Breathe in a very rhythmic pattern.
Try holding onto the edge of the pool, extending yourself, and then practice rotating to breathe. Basically eliminate everything from swimming but the breathing.
Then take a kick board, and hold with one arm while stroking with the other. Breathe to the side you're taking a stroke with. Go up breathing to one side, and back the other. Do this a few times.
Then swim, while focusing on your rhythmic breathing. Just focus on breathing.
I the meantime take a Gas-Ex, or something similar, to get rid of the bloating. Although I'm an above average swimmer, I keep gas-ex in my transition bag. If I find myself in a really rough water swim, or a "dog fight" in a crowded swim, I'll take one in T1 as a precaution.
