Hard to believe, but this training camp is only 8 weeks away.  We need to start discussing people's schedule for Friday arrival so that we can organize a swim and short run afterward.  I may develop a separate thread with a poll so that people can vote their arrival times and we can use that for planning purposes.  I can't believe April is half over with already Surprised

I am sooo stoked for this weekend.  After watching the crappy feed from IMAZ for about 5 hours yesterday I am really looking forward to checking out the course.

Birkie:  Good idea about starting a Pole as to when people will arrive in town Friday.  This will help me determine when I need to start driving.

8 weeks away!  When should we start tapering?

Yeah, its coming fast for sure!  As for myself, I took Friday off, so I can be down in Mad-town as early as possible.  Id like to do more than just one sport per day and put in some good volume.

I'm taking Friday off too.  It'll take me 4 hours to drive down.  I'd rather get a swim in early afternoon rather than later.  That will leave time for a decent run, shower, grab a bite to eat, beer and get ready for the bike fest on Saturday.  If possible, I'd like to get a crew of people that have not done the bike course together so we can do a drive-thru Friday afternoon/early eve so that folks can get a feel for the turns on the course.  Nothing worse than having to stop on the bike at every intersection to check the map.

Unfortunately that Friday will be the last day of school.  I'm going to try and ditch out as soon as I can-but it will be tough to get out that early.  Figure I should be on the road by 2:00.  Getting to Madison by 5:30 or so.

Nothing firm decided on bike start time yet.  I don't want to get too late of a start so we can get the stick part of the course done before traffic starts building up near Madison.

I'm a maybe for the weekend.  Someone had posted they booked the AmericInn, that's where we stayed for IMWI '07 and it worked out great.

Just some tips from a sorta local-- While downtown is the most central, it is also the most expensive, and trafficky too.  Try and stay on the WEST side if possible, it makes the most sense.  Ask when you book your room if they are in the west side- most chain hotels have locations at both. I am a big fan of the Hampton Inn, in fact, I'll be staying there June 5.  They usually have decent breakfasts (cereal fruit, bagels, juice, and some hot food which usually looks nasty to me) and it's in a pretty good location.

Anything you may need, be it bike stuff, nutrition can be found anywhere- it is a very tri friendly kind of city, I recommend Fleet Feet in Middleton for everything but bikes, and depending on where you are staying, there are multiple mechanics and bike shops all over.

There is also a specific Tri Shop called Endurance House in Middleton (where there are LOTS of hotels too, btw, it is the town just west of Madison and is practically a part of Madison)  It is owned by a multi time Ironman, and he has always been really nice and helpful and interested in supporting the community. You guys would love him.

Food and Beer. The real reason for the wknd, right?

If I can be helpful scoping out good spots for mass meetups/meals I am happy to do so. The Great Dane in Fitchburg is big and would accomodate a group.  It is a traditional WI brew pub.  Tutto Pasta has a large variety of pasta (every triathletes fave meal) and enormous portions.

I will be available off and on all weekend for support, SAG etc.  I do have a few responsibilities (like, uh, closing on a house and moving! oh and horrible inlaws I would love any excuse to escape, like, uh, "my BT friend needs me to drive a tube out to him!" but I can be "on call" if y'all need someone.

I am so excited, IM makes me so happy, after IMAZ yesterday, I can;t wait to get back to MSN ands see all the zillions of people who come through to train.

WTF is up with this "maybe" crap?!  I suppose you've got better plans?.  Its not like you have to get ready for a wedding or anything.  Oh, yeah, right, I forgot, you are getting ready for a wedding.  Hope you can make it.  Smile

Well, it seems like the head honchos (Ron) at BT are interested in obtaining video coverage of our IM WI mini-camp and posting video to the website.  Ron would like to get BT'er interviews, why they are doing IM WI, goals, etc.  Plus he wants coverage of the actual workouts that occur on the course.

Ron just needs raw footage, he can do the editing.  The source just needs to be the correct format. According to Ron, video would have to be done with a camera using miniDV or a DVD/Hard-drive camera that records in AVI or MPEG format...other formats 'may' be acceptable.

Does anyone have a nice camera that would work for this?  If we have jockstrappers attending maybe they could help out with filming.  I'll get back to Ron after I get some feedback.  This is going to be awesome!!

How cool would that be.  Kelly will be jockstrapping and doing some lighter work-outs.  She might be able to help out.  My 12 year-old daughter would probably also like to help with this.

I have a Sanyo Xacti, which is a hand-held camcorder that films underwater.  I was thinking of building a mount for my bike to film portions of the bike course.  If I bring the camera I'd be more than happy to share the footage.  The camera films on SD cards in Mpeg4 format, which I could convert and mail to Ron on DVD in any format.
