I'm wondering how many of you actually put stuff in the rear pockets of your cycling jersey/jackets. I've never really used mine and when I did, it felt funny. If you use yours, what do you put in them?

Heck yea I use them.

I put the following in there for a long ride:

Money
Keys
Phone
Food
Sun block
Body glide

All rides:  cell phone, wallet and garage door opener go in my jersey pockets.  If it looks like rain (not too uncommon here in FL), I'll stick the cell and wallet in baggies.   My saddle bag has my CO2 inflator, extra tube, patch kit and mini multi-tool.

Long rides: extra water bottle and some fig newtons/nutrition bars in the pockets.

I just got a Bento box and may start carrying the garage door opener and/or cell in the Bento on short rides and my fig newtons on long rides.

I don't put anything there that I would want to break in case of an accident (phone, etc) or keys as I am afraid they would impale me if I had an accident.

I've used them for all of the things mentioned.  Plus, that's where I leave my inhaler.  It's lots easier to get out of a back pocket if I need it while riding than anywhere else I could put it.

Rear pockets are great.  Things I might carry?  Cell phone, ID, garage door opener, food (gels, powerbars, bananas), my kids, spare bike, rocket launcher...

I 2nd the vote on the kids...it's cheaper than a babysitter

  • gels & food
  • cell phone
  • screwdriver and a couple tools to hotwire a car just in case of breakdown
  • my EASY button from Staples
  • pistol for protection

The usual!

OMG, I totally use mine.  I hate jersey's without pockets, argggh!

I put a few dollars in there , maybe a gel or two, a kleenex, and maybe some gum, LOL!!  I don't fill them so they become bulky, but I do like them to hold my money and maybe a gel or two

Everything:

Tubes, tire irons, pump or CO2 cartridges

Bars, bananas, fig newtons when racing

Extra clothing

Oh yeah, my bank card, cell phone and my bus pass.

I always carry an ID, insurance card and a $20 dollar bill in one of the pockets - I usually put a power bar in one, and a rag to wipe the sweat off when I stop for a break.  Like others, I use one for trash, and I usually carry my automatic door opener in one of the pockets and leave the keys under the floor-mat of my vehicle to cut down on some of the bulk -- I keep my cell phone in my wedge bag because I sweat so much I'm concerned it will mess the phone up - I may try putting it in a baggie and sticking it in one of the back pockets though as that would be easier to answer or get to in an emergency...
