For those of you signing up for St. Anthony's, you might want to think about getting your hotel booked now.  I spent an hour on the phone today trying to find a hotel that was within walking distance to the event.  Check the website www.satriathlon.com for hotels that they recommend.

Here are some tips I discovered today.  I called the Vinoy (it's booked with a dental convention), the Hilton 727-894-5000 has rooms for $259/night plus $10 for parking per night/per car, the Hampton Inn 727-892-9900 won't allow reservations until December 1.  The girl did tell me that they begin taking phone calls at 6 am, so call early!!!  They also charge $10/night/car for parking. She wouldn't give me rates until Dec. 1.

I also got the names of a few bed and breakfast places.  I will be staying at La Verandea 727-824-9997 for $139/night.  I spoke to Nancy and she was SUPER nice!!  A couple of others that were recommended to me were Lee Manor 727-894-3248 and Colonial Inn 727-896-6400.

Good luck!!  If I can help ya'll in any way, please let me know!!  Karl (Motivated) and I are planning some BT parties for the weekend as well.  We will post those as we get closer to time.

Hey Wendi- thanks for the heads up. I will see if I can get that place where you are staying. How close is it to the race site?

Here is the address to the bed and breakfast I'm staying at:  111 5th Avenue North
St Petersburg FL 33701

It's just right up the street from the park.  Check the St. Anthony's site for an actual map.  I couldn't get one to load on here.

Nancy (the owner) told me that everyone who stayed there last year won their age group!!  That was reason enough for me to book it!!!

Ok guys, just booked my hotel room at the Comfort Inn. Great price- $63.99. I think they are pretty full, so if anyone else wants to call the # is 727-323-3100. It's like 2.4 miles away from Vinoy Park- I mapquested it. Have a good night!

Okay, we're booked at the Alden for $113.  It's on the St. Anthony's site if you want info.  It's ~5 miles away, but also has kitchenette.  Since I prefer to freeze my drinks the night before, it's nice to know there's a fridge.  If anyone knows of a closer or cheaper place that has fridge access, I'd love to know.

What dates are everyone planning to be there?

I'm coming in from Chicago, so probably in Friday, 2 nights, and out Sunday evening.

Or... if there's more stuff planned, I could make it a longer stay. I have this bad habit of not using all my vacation time at work and loosing it at the end of the year...

Hmmm, decisions decisions....

I will probably get in on Thursday and leave on Tuesday.  I have never been to Tampa/St. Pete, so I may enjoy the area an extra day or so on each side.

Bah, I'm rooming up in my cozy East Lake abode. (I live 15 minutes from start line) But my choice for hotels has to be the Don Cesar. It's very nice, very pink and very very expensivo. ^_^

Registerd for the Oly. Booked a room at the Alden. Their rates start actually at $88 / night for basic hotel room ( non-suite ). Suites go up to ~$130 with a gulf view and kitchenette. They still have availability if anyone is looking.

I'm booked to arrive Thursday 4/21 and depart Monday 4/25. Figure a day on the beach or so will do me good.

FYI for those traveling with bikes or shipping your bikes. Chainwheel drive is the official bike store of St. Anthonys (and my favorite not so local bike store) They have a link on their web site about shipping your bike. the site is

http://www.chainwheeldrive.com

Sorry I don't know how to make it blue so you can just click on the site...you will have tp type it in.
