The Orange County Triathlon, which will be the new one will be September 28th. This originally was supposed to be a few years ago wih the swim in Irvine Lake, but the RD ran into some obstacles with the State Water Board that regulates water purity. They shut down the swim in Irvine Lake, so the event became a Duathlon. Now it seems they've solved the problem with the use of Lake Mission Viejo.

This sounds fun but I'm doing the Pasadena reverse sprint that day. It's much closer for me and is the tri that although will be my third, I'd planned to be my first. I also train at the Rose Bowl often and feel it's kind of my "home" tri.

The late September one sounds good. JB, do you race the Newport Beach tri?

Regarding the Sept. 28 international distance triathlon in Orange County, what's the deal with the day before packet pickup and transition setup?  This seems like overkill for an olympic distance race, pretty much a deal breaker for me.  I really don't want to drive all the way down there to get my stuff and set up a transition, then have to head down again to race the next day.  And the real pisser is that the end-of-September race that was previously held in San Dimas (much closer to my home and probably less than 2/3 the price) has gone away now that this thing came along.  I hope the race is a flop and folds after this year...

All participants will pick up their numbers, t-shirts and goodie bags at our host hotel, The Courtyard by Marriott in Foothill Ranch, on Saturday, Sept. 27 from 10am-6:30pm. In addition, we will have a Multi-Sports Expo at the hotel. There will be NO Sunday morning Race Day Packet Pick-up. note: you must proceed to T2, on the Aliso Creek bike trail, parking at the Mammoth Office Building, after packet pickup, and drop off your running gear and setup your transition. There will be NO setup race morning.

Okay, so I found the Bonelli tri at the TriEvents site.  It just wasn't listed in the BT race log -- for the record it is on 10/5/08 this year, the week after this event.  For whatever reason, this (OC Tri) event is in the system but doesn't come up when I search California races (I can only find it when I try to add a new race).  Oh well, much happier now -- I'll race San Dimas instead of this one.

Isn't it because T1 isn't the same place as T2?

Wishing a race goes out of business (for other than safety reasons) = bad karma

Cool, I need some bad karma, much cheaper than buying good karma offsets.
