So what food is that you are just curious to try... there are so many out there for me, but perhaps the top of my list is turducken, the strange turkey, duck, chicken combo, where the duck and chicken are deboned and roasted inside a partially deboned turkey...

Anyone else have a food list of things to try?

Durian. I didn't have the courage to try it when I was in Southeast Asia.

Turducken is awesome. It's fun to make too, but a HUGE process. I mean, it tastes like what you'd expect - poultry and stuffing.

There are staples of "vegetarian/vegan" fare that I've not gotten around to trying. One of those things I want to try is quinoa. I hear it is very healthy. I think the reason I haven't tried it is more just taking the time to figure out how to prepare it well.

My wife and I are very keen on Quinoa (HA!).  It isn't all that hard to prepare.  Finding an interesting recipe... that is a bit more challenging.

It is... ummm... very interesting. I probably will not try it again.

Indian Cuisine (dots, not feathers) - I just don't know what would be good and haven't been bold enough to try.

Indian food is AWESOME! And nothing I've had is scary. It's just veggies and meat in sauce. Ethiopean food is also very good - and eating with your hands is fun!

- Gourmet raw food. They look so pretty.
- Fried insects with lots of spices. Heard it's crunchy like fried shrimp.
- Turducken

Durian....We were Thailand and it was on the dessert menu...the smell is definetly unique...sort of like my running shoes after a very long run. Better yet it smells like landfill on a hot summer day. Long story short...on a dare everyone tried it except for moi...I can't get over the smell of it.
I see them now in Chinatown and maybe one of these days with the help of clothes pins I might give it a try.

X2.... I've never had anything in an Indian restaurant that was bad... if nervous when  you go in look for Tandoori chicken... pretty standard.  Or the word Korma.  very nice.  And it's hard to go wrong with daal.

Turducken originated about ten miles south of where I am at a place called Hebert's Specialty Meats in Maurice, LA. It's OK, less than "awesome," more of a novelty than a gourmet dish. It's not like you can distinguish the taste of a chicken from a turkey from a duck, not after they've all been cooked together.

yeah, I think the novelty is part of it... I can't say WHY I want to try it, but if I had a chance, I would jump at it.

I just bought the "Veganomicon," a cookbook that makes me want to try half of the recipes!  Woo-hoo!  There's a quinoa recipe in there; if I try it I'll post results.

Meanwhile, I'm going to start with the soups -- stuff familiar to me -- and maybe work my way up to the stuff with strange ingredients.  Not ALL of the stuff with strange ingredients, mind you; I don't see myself actually going totally vegan.  But the chickpea cutlets and definitely intriguing, and they call for Wheat Gluten.  So... my #1 answer now is chickpea cutlets!

Fugu

Poutine (and I have been to Montreal..just missed my chance because I was eating high on the hog)

Raw seal....I did not order it in Iqaluit because I doubted that what was on the "country foods sampler" in the restaurant was up to snuff so to speak.

All sorts of stuff I have seen on Anthony Bourdain's show

(edit) Does absinthe count as a food?

Yeah, it's more the sense of accomplishment. I helped make one once - deboned the duck all by myself It cooks for like 12 hours (we actually cooked it overnight), and with 7 of us (only 2 of us being female, and I can eat a lot), we only managed to eat about 1/4 of it in a sitting!

Ah, in England that's called a 3-bird roast. We had a similar thing for xmas one year. Highly recommended

Ours was a pheasant in a duck in a chicken in a turkey in a goose - a five bird roast. Awesome, but will feed a family of 112.

Ah, Jessica beat me too it lol
