Subject: Foot injury while swimming??

So today I had an easy swim as it is a recovery week and about 900 yards in I get what feels like a cramp in the arch of my left foot.  It is about as far inside as it could be without considering it the top of my foot.  I have never had this happen before and have no idea what caused it.

Any ideas??

it's probably related to the plantar fascia. swimmers can get plantar fasciitis, which is basically inflammation of the thick tissues that connect the bottom of the foot. you can roll your foot on a tennis ball to try to stretch it, and you should probably try to stretch it out before each swim so it doesn't happen again. if you can stand it, you could try to ice it down.

Interesting.  I think I had the exact same thing happen to me today.

I was putting on my sweats after my swim and my arch muscle basically seized up.  It seized as I was extending my foot to get my sweats on.  I got the foot through, looked down and could see the arch muscle spasming.  After a few seconds of intense pain, it just then went away.

Although, even though I'm new to swimming, I've been running for 2+ years w/o the slightest indication of Plantar fasciatis (sp?).

I'm also curious if this has happened to anyone else and what helped...

Thanks.

I was having this problem last night in the pool!  It was like a charley horse and I could see the spasm through my skin.  I mentioned it in my log today.  I had been on the bike and running prior to my swim, so I think I may have been dehydrated.  Then the water was really cold, too, which felt particularly awful.  I went in the hot tub and put a jet on it.  (It really hurt, but in a good kind of way when I did that) When I got home I rolled it on my "tootsie roller"--something I got from PT as I had surgery on that same foot in October.  I also drank alot of water and ate some Shot Bloks.  It is fine today, for now.

I rolled my foot over a tennis ball last night, that seemed to help.

But I ran today and noticed odd feelings now on the arch in my other foot.

At this point, my mind is just f-ing with me...

I just found this posting after I did a search on Foot injury swimming.

I hate to join this club, but Monday night for the 3x I experienced the same thing. It felt like the bone was coming thru the bottom of my foot near the arch on the inside. The pain lasted for about 2 min then gone.

WTF ? Anyone ?
