So my 10 YO daughter is talking about a friend of hers who has a rough family life, and she says, "...and it's not even like she has the best Daddy in the World, like you. I mean it's just hard for her...." and she keeps talking. The way she said it was like it was the most evident thing in the room, and she glossed over it as such. I think I'll carry that one with me forever...

What's the best thing your kid has ever said about you?

My 4 year old son (now almost 12) was sitting next to me in my car when that song that says "I love the way you love me" in it.

My son looked at me with all seriousness and said, "Mom, I love the way you love me." That was the greatest!

Awww...both those stories warm my heart.  I hope I get to experience to unconditional love of a child one of these days.

Bless you both for being parents

...but my 6yr old daughter told me just last night that I was the best daddy in the world. We must've tied for this award.

One day my favorite kid said' Dad sometimes it doesn't really suck to live with you"

Another time I ran into a kid who I had fathered illegitimately, never supported, and had from time to time for laughs called the cops on his crack addicted mother, anyway he says "someday I'll kick your azz for my miserable life and for the way you treated my mother". I was deeply touched and confided to him," yeah well you better figure out how to walk first you crippled twerp" I turned his wheelchair over and walked away.

When my oldest son was about 7 years old he said something to the effect of "When I grow up I want to have a cool job like you."  And then in the next breath he said "I think I'd like to work at the landfill."

Around Christmas-time my now 2.5 yo daughter was having a casual conversation with a stuffed doll in some store and said, "...and this is my Daddy. He's a very good Daddy.." and my heart stopped for the 1st time since she was born.

THAT's why I want to get back in shape and do something to help others. So I'm around as long as possible setting a good example for her.

Good thread!

I smile big every time my daughters say "love love" to me out of blue.  That's our term for 'I love you'.  My 9 year old will say it without prompting on regular occasion.  I don't know if this will last into their teens, but those words make parenting so worthwhile.
