Subject: End of IM training week 8!
Well, I am a day late with this post but I am still very happy that I have one more week down, 16 to go.
This was a scheduled rest week for me but because of some scheduling problems and real life getting in the way of my tri life, I had some extra rest this week.

This was supposed to be a swim/recovery week and I was going to do 4 swims. It ended up being 2 swims for 5400 yards and 1hour 55 min at the pool. One of those days was after my work holiday party and I wasn't feeling the hard swim workout...especially after the Bass Ale. I pretty much phoned in the workout, sorry Fromer!

I also flaked on the bike as well. I was supposed to get in 2 rides on the trainer plus a short ride on Sat. I got in 30 min on the trainer on one day, skipped the second day and was late meeting my training group on Saturday. I ended up catching the beginner ride from my triclub so I rode with them and turned my 40 mile ride into a game. I rode using only gears lower than 53/15. That was actually really fun and I got to get in a lot of out of the saddle riding, which I rarely do. I rode for 3 hours, 30 min.

The run was the only thing I stuck with this week. My short runs have moved from 4 miles to 5 miles. I had 3 runs of about 5 miles each and one long run of 10 miles. I ran a total of 24.21 miles for 4 hours 15 min. It's pretty cool that 6 months ago I was looking at 6 miles as a long run that would wipe me out, now I do 10 miles and feel great afterwards and my 5 mile runs seem too short.

This week is going to be a bike week. I have 4 rides scheduled. 3 on the trainer and one long ride of 80 miles. I am really looking forward to the long ride because there will be about 25 of us taking the train up to Anaheim then riding our bikes back down to San Diego. That will be good because there is no turning back. You have to get home some how.

I only have 3 runs this week, two 5 milers and another 10 miler on Sun.

I have 2 swims scheduled as well. I am going to try and get in 6000 yards, but I'll see how I feel.

I was a little concerned about my training because I went from 2 a day workouts 4 or 5 days a week, to pretty much 1 workout most of the time. But I had dinner with my coach last night and he is confident that I will have no problems with this race. When he was making my schedule, he had factored in the fact that I would miss a lot of workouts because I am new to IM training and the holidays, but because I haven't missed many in the last 8 weeks, he backed off a little with the amount of workouts.

Overall I feel good but, but I am still a little anxious because I feel these workouts are a little too easy. Things seemed harder 4 weeks ago, but again I will trust him and keep my fingers crossed.

Keep the positive vibes coming my way and as always, thanks for listening
Tom

Things are getting easier now because you are getting stronger my friend.

I really like how your workouts are progressing. An 80mile bike ride for the weekend?....Very nice....and you have about 16 weeks to go?. Seems to be getting shorter everyday huh?

Good luck.  Looking forward to seeing you cross the finish line.

Keep up the great work Tom! It's always impressive to the dedication, time and effort that it takes to train for an event like that. Go Ironcow, Go!

Is the Bass Ale part of the carbo-loading or recovery phase? I want to make sure I do it correctly in my own training.

I've heard some Pros take 12oz for every 11 lbs of bodyweight, but I figured I should take a little more, just to be sure.
