Good things come to those who wait - We signed up the last night before the 'give away' deadline and I ended up the winner of the wetsuit!

The wife and I have signed up to do this a second time (previous was 2006); It was hot! I heard it was rainy in 2007, and I was wondering how that affected the race - especially the bike.

It only rained lightly on the swim.  I didn't even know it rained.  I guess people who started early got rained on at the start of the bike also.  If you didn't finish until later the skies just opened up and downed poured at about the 6:45 mark of the racing day.  I just remember it being horribly humid and very hot.  Really need to make sure you are hitting the fluids and nutrition correctly.  I pretty much melted down on the run and had a really difficult race after the 2 mile mark.

congrats on the wetsuit!  that's awesome!

there was a little rain when i started the bike which made the road a little slick.  a guy ahead of me ate it on the turn into shellsburg.  but the roads dried up pretty quickly, so it wasn't too bad.  just a little more caution.

the overcast skies did make the weather more bareable.  i noticed the heat increasing quite a bit on the run when the sun was coming out.

got out of there before the downpour, which by coincidence (bryan!) happened at the sprint in june.

We're in (the wife and I).

Looks like they had to change the bike course, most likely due to the flooding in the area

25 days to go!!

Are you already registered 'cause the race is full.  I'm not doing the Long Course, but I did the short course and they put on a great race.

Yes - we're signed up - but looks like the wife will be bailing out - stress fracture on foot during a 15 mile training run. There goes my training partner! Now it's all up to me - three weeks to focus....

Nope - not registered . . . didn't realize it was full - @$%@$#

I was holding off - needing to make sure I was free from work that weekend and could get my training in with a busy summer . . . I was working to be ready for this race tho . . . shoot - I think it was my only option - back to searching for races AGAIN!  Good to hear they put on a good race tho - maybe next year I'll get signed up earlier!

Thanks,
Renee

Sorry about that.  Yeah there aren't a lot of 1/2 distances races in the area.  Especially on the western side of Iowa.  I think there are only two now (Dutchman and Pigman) and of course they are only one weekend apart so you really would probably only do one or the other.  While there are a lot more races coming online, we certainly don't have the offerings of a lot of the bigger states.

I'm doing pigman again this year.  I consider this my A race and like the course and they run it pretty well.

It did rain last year, not a prob.  I was duped into thinking it would be cool.  It was overcast on the bike portion so I backed off on my hydration.  When I got out on the run and the sun came out I knew I would be in trouble.  It got pretty humid and by mile 7 I could feel my performace on the run drop.

If I have learned anything, take electrolites and hydrate.  Eating is just math (try to get in 300 cals/hr) but the others are a bit less obvious.

I spoke with the RD - they had enough cancellations that I was able to fedex a check and he got me in - YAY!!!

I am a bit worried about the heat and how that will impact me as I haven't done a lot of training in the heat.  Thanks for the heads up . . .

Just pimped out my ride.  Put the race wheels on, tuned up the gears.  Spun it around a bit.

I'm getting normal prerace jitters.  This ride should have been much easier.  What did I forget (I'm going to IL for the week and meeting my wife in IA.  She'll bring my stuff).  I know I'll do ok, but I was hoping to really lay the hammer down this year.  We'll see.  I'm jacked for the run; tapering is driving me crazy.

Everyone, expect some heat.
