Purpose - Train on the IMLP course

- Train with and get tips from triathletes that have raced IMLP before
- An excellent opportunity to practice your race nutrition and test out your race gear
- Get a firsthand look at the infamous hills on the bike and run course
- Get familiar with the layout of the transition area and venue
- Have fun
What is the Cost of the Training Camp? The training camp is a self supported event. There is no charge to attending the training camp itself but you are responsible for your own transportation, lodging and meals. The idea is to get a great group of folks together and create a fun atmosphere and enjoy a weekend of training. However, and here’s my shameless plug, as part of my first Ironman attempt, I am raising money for the Alzheimer’s Society and a donation to this charity is certainly appreciated. You can find out more information at http://www.caiusworld.com. It doesn’t matter if you’re training for Ironman Lake Placid or not. Anyone that wants to experience the beauty of the Lake Placid landscape and push their fitness to the next level in a fun group setting is welcome. Support The training camp is completely self-supported. You will need to provide your own breakfast, lunch, dinner, swim/bike/run nutrition and hydration, recovery nutrition, spare parts, etc. We will however try to organize a group lunch and dinner so that we can all hang out together. Nutrition for the Lake Placid Half Marathon will be taken care of by the event organizers. Lake Placid Half Marathon The Lake Placid Half Marathon takes place on a significant portion of the IMLP marathon course. By participating in the half marathon you get to scope out the IMLP run course, get an excellent training session under your belt while having your fluid and nutritional needs catered and if that wasn’t enough, you’ll receive a finisher’s medal too! For more information and to signup visit www.lakeplacidmarathon.com. Registration for the race is already open so don’t delay in reserving your spot. Okay, I’m Interested. What’s Next? If you’re interested in attending the Ironman Lake Placid Training Camp: 1. Send me an email at caius@caiusworld.com and let me know that you’re coming. In your email, make sure you include: - Your full name, include your BT alias if appropriate
- The city that you’re coming from
- Your expected arrival date and time
- Your expected departure date and time
- Whether or not you will be participating in the Lake Placid Half Marathon
- Whether or not you will be participating in all or some of the planned events. If some, specify which ones
- Your experience level (i.e. will you be participating in IMLP ‘08, longest race you’ve raced so far)
2. Sign up for the Lake Placid Half Marathon. 3. Book your lodging; see below for more info. Lodging There’s a myriad of choices when it comes to lodging in Lake Placid. Here’s a link to tripadvisor.com that has a good list to get you started. Last year, I stayed at Art Devlin’s Olympic Motor Inn. It was great because it’s right in Lake Placid and within walking distance to the Olympic Oval, Mirror Lake and the Lake Placid strip. In terms of the quality of the actual hotel, it’s cheap and clean and has a pool (which is great for cooling off after the bike or run) but don’t expect anything else. This was fine by me as the only thing I did there was sleep. It would be fantastic if we could all stay at the same place since it would make meeting up and hanging out that much easier. Note that Lake Placid is packed with triathletes in June so it‘s probably a good idea book your room soon. Give them a call at 518-523-3700 and reserve your room now.
