I just realized that there are no direct flights from NY to Panama City. The flights right now are a bit over $500 round trip with a connection. Has anyone ever flown into Pensacola and made the drive to Panama City? Flying into Pensacola would save me about $300 per person and it's direct. I planned on renting a car either way since I'll be there for over a week.

I flew into Tallahassee last year when I volunteered and drove and this year I'm flying into Pensacola and driving. I'm coming from Boston and it sounds like the flights are about the same cost as from NY. It's about 90 miles so it shouldn't be that bad. Better choice of flight times too.

I flew into P'Cola last year and drove over.  Easy 2 hour drive (or less), depending on traffic.  If you're flying your bike, make sure you rent a vehicle big enough to carry your bike case.  I didn't and spent a bit to upgrade.

I also flew into Pensecola, and it saved me a ton of money even after the gas and car rental.

Oh, and since you asked... if you're a moron and read your itinerary arrival time as the departure time and miss the last flight out of Pensecola, the Red Roof Inn is the cheapest place near the airport to crash. Wink

PS - this seriously cuts into the savings associated with flying into Pensecola.
