breckview - 2008-04-07 7:20 PM I hate my speedplays and I'm switching them out. I can't get the cleat screws to stay in place. You also cannot walk across snow in them because it cakes in and instantly turns to solid ice (regional problem I know).

Yeah, the OP is from Virginia, so the snow issue... not such a big deal for her, likely.

What do you mean, you can't get the screws to stay in place?  I've had my cleats on my shoes for a year and a half with no problems.

2 suggestions:

1) coffee shop cleat covers

2)lock tight (or however you spell that stuff that you put on screws that makes them stay put

Love my (pink) Speedplays and have had no trouble with them.  I do recommend the covers for the cleats when walking in them.  However, as others have pointed out, you'll get used to whichever pedals you choose and ultimately clipping in and out will become second nature.

Screws coming out? That is so weird. I have never had my screws come out of my Speedplays. Hhhuuummmm. Odd.

Otherwise, I will agree that you have to keep the Speeplays out of mud (I live in Texas and do not ride in snow). Which at bike rallies can be a struggle when the water is on the grass and there is mud on the ground from water being spilled.

Yea, the covers work but I'm usually too lazy to use them. It's hard to predict here whether there will be snow patches on the route or not so I never end up having them with me. Good idea to put something on the screws. I have no idea why they won't stay put.
Might be some weird dynamic with my shoes.

What do you mean, you can't get the screws to stay in place?

I go for a ride and afterwards one or more of the screws are gone. Worse yet, they are very special screws and aren't easy to find.
