Sunny
Total Time = 1h 23m 51s
Overall Rank = 373/530
Age Group = M30-34
Age Group Rank = 53/69
Pre-race routine:

Packed all my stuff the night before.
I normally have a energy bar about an hour before the race but forgot to buy one this week so I had a banana instead, I'm just not a big breakfast eater before a race.
Had an energy gel about 10 mins before the swim with some water.
Event warmup:

Did a few stretches.
Jumped into the water with 4 minutes to go before the start and swam around to warm up. Was only treading water for about 30 sec.
Swim
  • 14m 29s
  • 750 meters
  • 01m 56s / 100 meters
Comments:

The start was a nightmare. I started from the middle of the pack and got knocked around a bit (I did some knocking of my own as well). After about 100 meters everybody started to spread out and I was able to get into a rhythm. The last time I raced I wasted a lot of energy in the swim trying to keep sight of the course markers. This time I tried to use other swimmers as a guide and only checked a couple of times to make sure I was on course.
What would you do differently?:

I've got to get closer to the front of the swim pack before the start to try and get some clear water and not get knocked around as much.
Transition 1
  • 00m
Bike
  • 44m 6s
  • 20 kms
  • 27.21 km/hr
Comments:

I was able to put my shoes on, while on the bike a lot easiser this time. When I jumped on my bike I peddled with my feet on top of my shoes for a while until a came to a downhill section of the course and then strapped my feet in while rolling down the hill. The rest of the ride went well but am still being passed by a lot of other competors.
What would you do differently?:

I need to keep up my training on the bike, it has slipped in the past few weeks on it showed.
Transition 2
  • 00m
Run
  • 25m 15s
  • 5 kms
  • 05m 03s  min/km
Comments:

Started out pretty slow feeling like I wanted to stop (this is normal). Felt better after about a kilometer and was able to pick up the pace. Stared to get a couple of blisters on my feet towards the end of the run which is unusual.
What would you do differently?:

Make sure I don't wet my shoes as I run and take a second or two to check that they are on right and won't slip around and blister my feet.
Post race
Warm down:

I had a heap of water, watermelon and bananas.
I forgot to stretch as I was fairly stuffed after the race.

What limited your ability to perform faster:

I haven't been training as much over the past few weeks and so I think it told on the day. If I want to improve, three swims over three weeks and riding to and from work (this is only 6km each way) is just not enough.

Event comments:

I'm happy with my race and still enjoy racing around in the heat but I know I can improve. I can still achieve my goal of finishing in the top half of my age group but it may take a bit longer then I first though.

I will be trying to find more time for training before the next race in January but that could be a problem with Christmas just around the corner.

Congrats for Race 3!

I'd kill for your run time after the swim and the bike, you've done well on little training.

Oh and watch those blisters I took my shoe off after the last tri and saw red. Ouch!

Thanks for that guys.

I'm planning to run race 4 but I guess my results from that race will depend on how big the festive season is.

Merry Christmas to you both.
