Subject: Recovery after sprint triathlon

All,

I'm training for a Sprint triathlon 400 swim / 15k cycle / 6 Run. How long should i chill out after i've done it for before I start training again?

 Thanks,

Conor Mc

it depends on how hard you have been training. If your max training days are less hard than your sprint you are going to need a couple or three of days. If your max training days are much harder than your sprint race, one day off should be enough.

Just my opinion

It depends on your base training, but if you're brand new to the sport and don't incur any kind of injury during the race, there is nothing to stop you from resuming training as soon as your body tells you to.  Listen to your body.  Some here will say to resume the next day, some will say take a few days to a week off, but after all the advice is doled out, your body is the best indicator.  As you progress in your training, you will recover faster after each event.  Also, you can and should use training as a means of recovery and can do a search here to find musings on that subject.

Good luck in your race, and welcome to BT!

Depends on how many beers you have after the race....

Since when does a "sprint tri" include a 6 mile run? I'll assume that is 6k and I'm a dork

I was so disappointed with my swimming performance last weekend, that I was in the pool the next day.

I've only done two sprint tris, but after the last one I felt good enough to bike the next day.  I gave it a few more days before I started running again.

I take more of a break the few days before a sprint than I do after it.  I want all my energy and training ready to blow up and go full out for the sprint tri, which is actually a fairly short (time wise) day for me.  The day after a sprint is a great day for a nice long bike ride.

i did

400m swim
25k bike
5k run

sprint on sunday

then followed it up with a swim and running sprints 2day (monday) you dont really need a break from a sprint, but if you do, just dont run for a couple of days, biking is good, swimming is even better!

gud luck with up coming races too!

BINGO!

I always take the day off before a race, and taper two to three days prior to that (depending on the lengh of the race). The morning of the race I am ready to explode. After my last race, Saturday, I did a nice easy long bike on Sunday to work out any sore muscles. However, as stated above definitely let your body tell you when you are ready to start again.

After a beer and a real good nap.  Preferably under a tree at the race site.
