Since I am the first to see your thread -- here is my answer.

A brick is when you go directly from the bike to the run with no rest -- just like you will do in an actual triathlon. There are differint ideas of why it is called a brick. The ones I have heard or read are -- B(ike)R(un)ick -- because it feels so strange (weird and awful) to go from bike to run; and the other is that your legs feel like bricks when you start running after cycling.

There are probably others.....

I remember reading that it is named for Matthew Brick, an early triathlete and coach.  Could be an urban legend or a faulty memory on my part.  I am getting pretty old.

It's Dr. Matthew Brick and he's not that old.  I got 10 years on him.  He has a book on Heart Rate Training.  Ain't Goolge wunnerful.

I always thought that a brick was any combination of event put together, Swim to bike, or bike to run. I have even called some training runs bricks that don't go in traditional order, run bike. It is just something that helps you get used to starting a run or bike not 100% fresh.

FYI: I have been doing bricks years before I was into tris. For my track team in High School, bricks were speed workouts, also known as ladders. For example: 4X200, 3X300, 2X400, 1X800, 2X400, 3X300, and 4X200.
I use this format for some of my swim speed workouts now(only shorter).

Well then, I finished my second brick this afternoon. 10m bike and 1m run. Quick! Dial 911. I guess what doesn't kill you makes you stronger. I am still breathing.
