Just signed up for the Olympic distance...my wife, Liz (aka rhyannon on BT), is leaning towards taking the plunge as well for her first Oly. Anyone else signed up for the Oly or the sprint for this event?

I'm in. This will be my first Oly. Hopefully the open water swim doesn't kill me like it did in Newport a couple days ago.

...And, indeed, my wife just registered last night...it'll be her first Oly (after three sprints).

I might do it.  I would like to do the Oly, depending on how my knee feels.  It will (hopefully) be my second if I live through Wiildflower this weekend.

Considering the sprint... it would be my first tri... of any distance... ever. Waiting to see if I can get in swimming shape by late May, will decide then.

Hey gang...this was my first triathlon last year! Great time, Great people...but watch out for the strong ocean current!!! Start way off to the side or you will do extra work!!!

I will miss this year due to flying back to MN for a wedding, so good luck and I look forward to the race reports!

I was looking at the results from last year and the times seemed abnormally fast. 6 out of the 9 guys in the 20-24M age group beat 2 1/2 hours. Was this just a ridiculously fast AG or is the course short/easy?

I don't think it's short, but it's ridiculously flat.  There's only one "rise" on the bike course that the Oly does twice.

This IS a fast course. It is basically the same course as Strawberry Fields or in the same area. It is flat, fast and fun! If I recall, I was clockin close to 24 to 25 mph couple of years ago at Strawberry.

Still considering this as my "comeback" race after my shoulder surgery 12 weeks ago. Hmmmm....sounds like fun!

I debated SF vs. BoL.  They are not quite in the same spot.  Coach recommended SF for me because a) the swim at SF is "more gnarly" -- always more surf there, even with the race moving from March to July, and b) the bike course at SF has "fewer 180-degree turns."   I have volunteered at both, and did the truncated SF sprint that ended up a du in 06 as my first multisport race.  I couldn't run back then, and no aerobars, but it's still the fastest bike split I've ever put down (and the flattest course by far).  Both seem fun and fast.

Yeah, I did the infamous Strawberry Fields "run thru the surf" du where even the elites couldn't make the first buoy

I know Ian should know his SF course being a one time director, but there are no 180 degree turns at the BoL Oly, and from the course map it looks like there are at least 4 at SF Oly.
