Subject: First Triathlon Next Week

I am posting this hear in CoJ instead of the Tri forum because most of their friends live here:

Both KRLudwig (Keith) and Girl_Passing_On_Left (Julie) are doing a Triathlon here in San Diego next weekend. (The Spring Sprint in Mission Bay)

Thought some of you might like to know and offer some encouragement/support or since this is CoJ a bit of heckling. (Just be sure to use the Sarc Font so they know your joking)

If you know GPL, you know what a big deal this is for her. It will be her first Open Water Swim

If you know Keith, you have seen what he has done to get to this point; It is his first race. (He is an inspiration for us all)

Keith, load up on the Mexican food today. Lots. Get extra beans and jalapenos with the burrito I know you're having. This will all help immensely with the swim.

Julie, all the boys will be trying to catch you. Don't let em. You're a sizzlin' hot cyclist--stay ahead and let 'em enjoy the view.

Both of you ...

SUPER GOOD LUCK !!!!!

The Spring Sprint is next week. They are doing a pool tri this weekend, I think...

Well, leave it to me to screw this up I guess.

The Tri (Spring Sprint) is next weekend and although the Spring Sprint won't be GPL's first Tri, it will be her first Open Water Swim

It will be Keith's first race so I guess I got something right

Cool, it let me edit the post. Thanks Tom for the correction.

Why, thanks!!  Mighty nice of you to remember.

My training has been light the past few weeks, but I think I'll do OK.  (I told my friend I'm just in an "extended taper". )  The only thing remotely worrying me is the swim, and only because I've never done an OWS before in a crowd.  The distance is quite short by sprint standards (just 440 yards), but even at that distance I'll still need to pause to catch my breath several times.  (I totally envy all of you who can go out and swim 1000's like it's nothing...)  But the wetsuit turns me into a human bobber, so not too worried about that.

I'll definitely be thinking about the horribly sad and tragic event of today, of course, though I'm sure there's really no risk of sharks in Mission Bay where the swim will take place.

Now I just need to practice T1 and T2, and I should be all set!  Oh, and it might be good to practice changing a flat, just in case...

You know it!  That's fast becoming my day-before meal! ;)
