Subject: Ironman and Heart Rate Based Pacing

So not to hi-jack the PRE thread, what pacing stategy should a first timer go out with based on HR. My number 1 priority is to finish but really would like to finish in the daylight (14 hours or so at CDA).

Should one strive to keep HR in zone 2? Start in upper zone 1 on the bike and let it come up through out? Honestly my initial plan is that, start in upper sone 1 on bike. Obviously I dont want to blow up but I would like to live up to whatever potential I am building up here.

that really depends on your current fitness level and what the HR avg you have obtained on long training rides and how eell have you run off the bike on some of those rides.

In general for a beginner or a BOP I would say high Z1 low Z2, for a MOP low to mid Z2 and a FOP mid to high Z2. Try this ranges on your training long rides and run off the bike, this will give you a better idea based on your fitness level what range you fall on.
