I'm officially in. Where is the Starbucks we're starting from? And is the time officially confirmed for 7:00?

Also, does the loop include a way for me to easily return to our starting point should my back give out after two hours and the rest of you want to do three? This will be longest I've been on a bike to date.

Main and Teel in Frisco.  On the south side of the road I believe.

Is this right Tommy?

Are we going to ride the same route we did the one day from Starbucks to the Celina Loop and back?

This sounds great Tommy.   Thanks for suggesting this.

I need to do about 6 hrs at 17-18mph depending on wind and terrain.   If y'all are planning on riding 2-3 hrs, then I assume I should just be able to do the route 2-3 times, right?

I've rode the Celina loop, but are you planning a different route?  If so, what are the road surfaces like?

If we do the same as the last time I road with Tommy we will ride less than 10 miles to the loop I believe and then ride the Celina loop or something near there and then the same distance back.  The day I rode I think I did 46 miles with 1 loop.

I will see if I can find the loop I did.

OH! Sounds like the ride I'm doing Saturday! Although I'm lucky to keep around a 16 mph average for that kind of distance.

I'm torn between starting at my house and meeting up with my cycling club... or going to Head for the Hills and making up the extra time at the end. Decisions decisions.

I won't go on this ride though. I hate the Celina loop. *Shudders at the memories.*

PS- Yes, I'm just derailing the thread and discussion nothing that concerns anyone. HA!

I hate the Celina loop. !
I would have to agree somewhat in that about half the loop is horrible chip seal with hills and it seem into the wind every time I have ridden it (only a few times though).  The other parts are extremely flat and fast with nice smooth roads.

Oh, feel lucky it won't be 100 degrees with huge grasshoppers attacking you from all sides... or rather getting slung onto you by the bike tire in front of you!

Tommy,

 Does this look about right?

Yep, that's what we did last time.  But, I know another route that doesn't go around Celina, it goes out to the lake, then to a park out there (pee, refill bottles), then north to Pilot Point and back to Frisco.  The roads are good; minimal chip seal.  I'll map it tonight and see how far it is.

Hey it was only 75miles worth of heat, and by the 3rd loop the grasshoppers were all dead so as long as you didn't skid on them we were ok.. That was pretty funny though riding along and hearing  EIIEE !!! out of nowhere

Yes, you could do the route multiple times.  I'll map out a route that's different from the Celina loop.  I have a route in mind, but can't remember how long it is.  These road surfaces don't have bad chip seal and there is a park about half way.

The links below are to a couple of route options.  They are both ~46 miles.  One is the 'Celina Loop'.  The other goes to Pilot Point and through some really scenic horse farm country.

I'll try to print these maps out and bring them to the ride.  We can decide on a route on Saturday.

I vote against the celina loop if the other loop has less chip seal.

x2.  I hate chip seal, and I'd love to try a new route that I haven't done before.

I'm not going to make it but I vote for the route up to pilot point.. I haven't gone all the way  up there but the roads are better for the routes that I've done

I may be out there for this ride.. I might ride it a couple of times depending on how I feel. I have been wanting to hate the Celina Loop, like everyone else, for a while now.

I will know for sure later today...

Yea, I thought about doing it. Just hard to pay for gas to drive there... to pay to ride... and then to not even get in 75 miles like I have scheduled. I can ride from my house to a group ride, and ride home to log 75 miles... and I don't pay for anything.

Free wins.

OK.  Pilot Point route it is.  I'll drive out there today.  There's a road I want to check out that goes into PP...may modify the route.

It should be a great day. Rode my road bike to work for the first time in quite a while after getting a new rear wheel finally. It was great this morning. Hopefully we'll have a lot of the same tomorrow.
