Comments: I wasn't really sure how it would go secondary to so many people being in the race. I wasn't really having a great attitude just not into racing and with another 5 miles to do later...humph. One good thing was the announcer said "If you have a stroller you need to get to the back....your child may get hurt and you don't want to be run over by faster runners" I actually PASSED people..its totally unprecedented. First mile marker I was SHOCKED that it was sub 9 minutes......I just continued doing my thing, running the best I could. It was hot, I was sweating buckets. Second mile split 9:15 extremely good for me. My HR was sky high tho. My mantra was no walking no walking no walking. I figured going sub 30 wouldn't be a problem. I saw the balloon markers, the start and finish had the same balloons tho. I looked at my watch and I KNEW the first ones were NOT the finish based on my time. Just went as fast as I could. Pete passed me with maybe 200 yards to go and we yelled at each other. Saw Jeff at the finish and he had done really well. Found my parents and got some water. Hung out and talked for a bit. We left early as my parents don't do well standing and none of us were hungry enough to make standing in line worth while. What would you do differently?: Not much I can do about heat and humidity in FL :) Post race
Warm down: Cool towel, water, walk around What limited your ability to perform faster: Heat and humidity. Being a very sweaty girl. I easily dropped 3 pounds of fluid in the race. I think I can safely say I was working pretty hard with an average HR of 174. I did have that 5 miler I had to do today as well in the back of my head tho Event comments: Good race...raises money for my target charity. My mom was so darn cute...she LOVED the race packet and she looked so cute with her race belt and new skort that I got her for mothers day :) My dad was acting all experienced and stuff but I think my mom had such a good time :) It was really nice. HOLY SMOKES 12/68 in my age group? Thats really good for me...OK I know 9:20s are extremely SLOW in the grander scheme of running....would get me thrown out of the army but an excellent result for me. Guess there were just loads of slow people :) I'll take it tho :) Last updated: 2008-04-28 12:00 AM

My mom and dad came up friday so they could do the 1 mile walk. They are both cancer survivors and Moffitt patients. We did the packet pickup the night before THANK GOODNESS because the packet pickup line this am was a nightmare. I took them to Columbia for dinner last night..they really liked it and we had the most awesome desert ever...white chocolate bread pudding....OMG it was worth every calorie.
I made corn muffins for breakfast the night before. Ate that and some DC of course. Just parked and walked over to the start. Got my timing chip and hung out with my folks..WOW has this race GROWN in 2 years. There were a TON of people.....it was crazy. They really were not prepared for the turn out. There was a huge line but its all good because 100% of the money from this race goes to cancer research. There were 1000s of people this year. I saw Terri and Pete walking to the start. Race started late due to so many people coming.
nada....I don't have many good miles in my legs I save em for the race
