I am moving to Hattiesburg and I am curious about the tri-community there. Any information would be appreciated! I need some trainning partners!

The Hub, as far as I know, has a pretty good cycling community.  Stop by this store and ask about the tri scene.  If it's like Jackson, they'll know what's up.

You got the Longleaf Trace there, too.  It's a rails to trails project.  30 miles from H-burg to Prentiss I think.

Two yahoo groups for ya:

The three bike shops in town:

The running store:

Jackson has a good cycling scene.  LOTS of runners, too.  There is at least a 5k in the area every weekend, plus there is a half mary in June and a Full and half mary in January.  There are a couple of local Iron Men/Women that you can reach through one of those yahoo groups.  Noticed the 140.6 in your username and figured it might interest you.

I moved to Hattiesburg 1 1/2 years ago. I am associated with USM and there is a pretty good group of triathletes. There are a several doing full Iron Man's this year that are members of the local running club ( www.pinebeltpacers.org ). The Long Leaf Trace rails to trails is 41 miles starting from the USM campus in Hattiesburg and terminating at Prentise ( http://www.longleaftrace.org/). There is a group ride every Sunday at 1:30 starting at the trail head ( USM ) - the ride is usually 40 - 50 miles. The group ride will generally get of of the trace and hit a few hills (nothing major - Mississippi is not known for hill country).

There are several Tris - sping to fall within an hour or 2 drive - Soak up the Sun, The Heat Wave and the Sunfish to name a few. Of course there is the Powerman dualathlon seriers in Alabama that is a hugh draw ( Alabama appears to have a pretty big scene).

Not a bad place - welcome...
