Just wondering if anyone has any stories about ankle injuries.

bit of background,  9 weeks ago I fractured my foot and badly sprained my ankle.  the fracture has taken longer to heal then it ws supposed to but its mending.  I was in a cam walker for 7 weeks.

2 weeks out of the boot and my ankle is still not responding to any treatment and is not behaving as the physio says it should.  Had a ct scan yesterday jsut to make sure there is no bone damage.  that came back pretty clear and its definitely tendon and ligament damage causing the pain,  still limping around and finding it difficult to walk.

Sports dr suggested a cortisone injection which I had yesterday,  it hurts alot right now but he said that would be the case for the first 2 days and should come good tomorrow.

anyone else had a cortisone injection in their ankle that I can kinda of compare?

Question the doc if they inject the Achilles. There are quite a few papers and 2 docs told me NOT to inject the Achilles. Been shown to have significant increase in rupture following cortizone injection.

I'm against cortisone injections.  The reasons being

1) cortisone is bad for the immune system and god knows what else

2) it's only going to ease the symptoms but not resolve the injury.

I'd keep working with the physio and maybe even get a second, third, fourth... opinion.

Had on in the side of my ankle about 3 years ago to treat ligament damage that wouldn't respond to any other treatment.  It hurt like hell during the night after the injection and was fairly painful the following day.  It didn't do the slightest bit of good though.

From what I have read about cortisone injections it seems that they work for some people but not others.

I have severe scar tissue and ligament damage from an ankle sprain and they are talking surgery to clean the joint out and tighten ligaments. I have heard nothing good about injections thru my years of playing sports. Does more harm than good because it doesnt fix the problem.
