Subject: Anyone try the 13 weeks to a 13 hour ironman plan
I am thinking about signing up for my first Ironman next year and was wondering if anyone has done the 13 weeks to a 13 hour ironman plan. I have done 3 Half-Ironman's and 3 marathons and think it is time to kick it up a notch. I have a 2 month old at home right now and am hoping by next summer things will be a little calmer so that I can train. I was looking at the plan and it did not seem that bad considering what I have been doing the past few years. I am curious what you thought of the plan and how close you came to the 13 hour mark. Thanks.

I have never heard anything about it.  My comment is more towards if you would want to cram the training into 13 weeks.  I will be doing my first IM in September and what I have really enjoyed up to this point has been the journey.  It has been a slow gradual increase and other than an occasional freak-out I have really enjoyed the process.  I think this is what I will remember most about the IM.

You are a full year away ....... you can easily fit in some good solid base building between now and then and just ramp it up a bit as the months get closer and have no problem finishing the event.  I'm going into Lake Placid in less than 2 months having barely 350 miles on the bike in my legs so far this year, and less than 50k yards swimming.  As long as you have a solid base it should be no problem for you assuming you pace reasonably well.

I pretty much followed Gale's 13 Weeks to a Sub 13 Hour Ironman for my first IM in 2002.  The "Sub 13 Hour" plan, as you might imagine, kicks things up a notch with more total volume.  I tweaked the plan a bit to dial up the cycling a bit and dial back on the swimming a bit.  It got me to the finish line in under 12 hours.  It's a pretty solid plan, I think, as a final ramp up to race day.  It's not "cramming" all the training into 13 weeks since, of course, as you need a decent base already established to start the plan.  Just a nice guide for ramping up to your biggest training weeks.
