Currrently...

  • Average to strong swim.
  • Average bike
  • Average to strong run.

I started out as...

  • Can't swim more than 25m
  • Bought a bike and though 20mi was a LONG ride
  • Average runner (9:00/mi)

In the last two years I consistently swam with lots of focus on drills and endurance. (enough to be first M35-39 after 1,500m last weekend).  I've run consistently as well, adding tempo runs after an 18-month base of slow and steady.  I've also run two marathons and 4 1/2-marathons.  I need to put some T.I.T.S. to bring me up to speed on the bike.

Strength: Swim (Former DI Swimmer)
Weakness: Bike - Just started back on a bike a few months ago and just don't have the time in the saddle I need.  But I'm working on it.
In between: Run - Not strong but not weak either, sort of middle of the pack.

Strong bike (shocker) - weak swim (shocker)

I chalk it up to oh, I don't know .... 5 years of USCF road racing and 4,000+ miles a year for years?  And not doing any real swimming other than one season in '91 at my Jr. college.

Stronger run - I'm not fast, but can go all day.

Learned how to swim exactly 12 months ago, but it's not my weakest area....I like it a lot more than I thought I would.

Pathetic biker....I don't spend enough time with it, so I guess it's my fault.  Looking to change that this year.

I picked strong run / weak swim.  Running is the strongest of the three because I spend the most time doing it   I'm a weak swimmer because I don't spend enough time in the pool.  40 minutes so far for this month.  It's my own fault that I'm a weak swimmer!  Maybe one day I'll be able to pick "good at all!"

Strongest: Swimming.

Why: Started swimming at age of 4 for Boston (UK).

Weakest:  At the moment it's a toss up between bike and running.

Why:  Last week (273km) was my first week back on a bike in 12 years.  Coming back from injury on the running side.

More time in the saddle and out on the road/trails needed Cool

umm, swimming is the weakest.  Can't tread, don't float. And there are things in the open water that scare me.

Pretty decent runner, decent biker. Room to improve on both, probably more so on the bike.

I WILL start swimming after Western States....I swear.

Strong: Run, I have not done running races but have always run for fitness with a soccer background and for my current job. I have skipped run training for a few months in the past and then posted about a 27 minute 5k. When I am running alot I can almost break the 21 minute mark.

Weakness: Swim, there is so much technique to it that I do not possess. My bad technique results in me getting tired quickly, which leads to worse technique which leads to looking for something to hold on to.

Strength: Swim - HS superstar

Weakness: Bike - general lack of fitness (getting much better, and my bike lost 30 lbs, upgraded engine)

strongest: run, because I enjoy the simplicity.
weak: bike, because it takes time to "gear up" before heading out, so I don't do it nearly enough.
weakest: swim, because I just started swimming this year and I SUCK!

I put "good at all three" but it really should be consistant at all three.  In my recent races my finishing % in each discipine is pretty consistant between all three.  Below are my results from my last oly out of 240 overall.  Placing consistantly in all three actually puts me in a decent overall finishing place.

I would not say I am strong at anything really just slightly better than average but at least consistant.

I really enjoy all 3 sports also but for different reason.  Swimming was hardest for me so I like the fact I have improved.  I was decent at cycling from the beginning but I like saying I am going out to ride 50 mile and the looks on peoples faces kill me.  I think I enjoy running because so many people hate it.

in a race its definately on the bike. I have only done two races (duathlons) and in both I got passed by everyone on the first run. I passed everyone on the bike, but then I was passed again on the 2nd run.

So it's pretty clear what I am not the strongest at. (and what I need to work on the most!)

I will find out how strong of a swimmer I am in 2 weeks at my first triathlon.

Strength - swim. I swam competitively up until college.

Weakness - bike. I have the least amount of experience with it and I'm a little afraid of getting hit by a car.

I'm not particularly strong in any sport yet, need more training and race experience, but relative to me:

Strong: Swim... I honestly love being in the water. I'm comfortable there.

Average: Run... I've never been a distance runner, more of a sprinter. That's quickly changing though.

Weak: Bike... I need a ton of work here. I'm slow and lacking in overall endurance. I'll probably spend most of the summer focusing on my cycling.

Cycling: I'm weaker than I'd like to be because I just don't get out enough.

Running: I suck at running. With each passing year I'm feeling it more, and carrying a few extra pounds around doesn't make it any easier. I feel like a very old man after an easy 10k.

Swimming: I do duathlons. Fooling around in the water with the kids when they were younger was fun; training and trying to improve saps every atom of fun out of it.   Swimming is for fish.

Why am I even here?

Because relative novices such as myself appreciate the time you take to thoroughly answer questions regarding the bike (primarily).

Don't go changin', sty...you da' man.

I can't say that I'm particularly strong at any of this.  I love running and it is my preference. That doesn't make me strong or fast, just one of thse crazy running fools.  Pool swims are no problem for  me.  I panic in OWS but keep tying cause one day I'll be a big girl and just go swim in it without freaking out.  I have only now grown to love my bike but know I have a LOT to learn to make it stronger...

some quite interesting reading here

I'm surprised to see so many strong swimmers - among the 'Pirates' that sign up to do Ironman its nearly always the swim tat people are most are afraid of and consider themselves weakest at.

I consider myself STRONG SWIM - i have always swam since i was 3 but never formally trained and never competitively - i had bronchitis type problems for the first 13-14 yrs of my life and it was swimming every day during the school summer holidays that sorted me out, i have also been on a TI weekend that helped a lot - im not a fast swimmer but i consider it my strongest

WEAK BIKE -i get very little time to train on the bike - finding 40mins for a swim or 60-90 for a run is easy, even a long run every other week is not a problem, but when it comes to finding 3-5hrs to get out for a bike ride i find it hard to do - I am also quite a large guy at 210lbs which doesn't hep on the hills - i feel i could be reasonable on the bike if i trained on it a bit more as during IMDE i went thru the 100mile mark at just over 5hrs

I am a competent runner, although not that fast (45min 10k) and have been known to run up to 30mile training runs - but i don't think i'll improve much more - although i am aiming for a sub 3:30 marathon in the spring (Paris or London

Strong swimmer because I am on the swim team.
Weak bicyclist because my speed refuses to go past 8 mph.

It appears that most of the strong runner - weak swimmer types hang out on running sites and not on BT.  I can definitely say that the majority of triathletes in the couple of races that I've been in were better runners and cyclists than swimmers.
