I was wondering what people do to avoid chafing while running. both my gf and I have the problem with running shorts, which have the brief liner in them -- chafing on the inner thighs. I was able to find some shorts with boxer-brief liners, which work good. do you just use body glide?

Body glide where the liner ends and around the waist where the waistband touches for long runs.

Body Glide works great!  I only have one pair of running shorts like you describe, as I prefer to run in my tri shorts.  But when I use them, I just put some Body Glide on my inner thighs and it's fine.

I developed this problem about three weeks ago and now swear by body glide.  Just put it anywhere you think you will have a problem and past that area too.  I haven't had a problem since!

Compression shorts under the run shorts can help too.

Trislide sure is easy to put on (spray) compared to the Body Glide.  I've heard Pam cooking spray works too. The compression shorts under my running shorts helped me also.  For my swim workout I wear jammers and to practice running wet I slid my shorts over the jammers and noticed that the chafing was better.

X4, or just run in your tri shorts.

I run in my tri shorts.

Sure, I hate showing my butt off to the world, but they are comfortable and don't ride up. So if someone doesn't like what they see...then they can look somewhere else!

I used to have that issue as well, but now I only run in tri-shorts. Issue solved.

I cut out the mesh liners if I buy running shorts that have them.  Then I wear compression shorts under my running shorts.  Works for me.

Body Glide definitely works wonders.  Also, I found a pair of nike running shorts with a soft compression lining that runs halfway down the thigh, but is not tight.  The material is perfect and prevents chaffage.

I have heard that solid deodorant does essentially the same as body glide. I usually use a little baby oil on my problem spots. Early season my legs rub together a bit so I use it to stop the chafing as well as on long runs. I just sweat vaseline off too fast

thanks for all the replies! tri-shorts seem to be the way to go, but i do have some running shorts which are really comfortable, so i'll just use body glide (when i decide to be un-cheap enough to buy some), or run with boxer briefs. thanks!

Tri shorts or compression shorts under your running shorts.  Looks funny but it's the only way I roll

Compression shorts FTW!

I wear them under my regular running shorts (including the one pair I have with a liner) for any distance over 10 miles. No more chafing.

ALWAYS run in tri shorts... problem solved.

I was doing that for awhile until I got a cheap pair of compression shorts. Don't really need the added bulk of the tri shorts chamois on a long run workout or--especially--a race.

The other thing about only wearing tri shorts for a long workout is that they may not provide the sort of pockets one might like to have for a self-supported run. That's the main reason I opt for wearing a pair of running shorts over my compression shorts. I wear my tri shorts for bricks, though.

At times I've been so irritated that it hurt to rub on the Bodyglide. So the spray stuff seemed  good. I read in an advirtisment for Trislide that it worked better than cooking spray. Lansinoh works good too (product for breastfeeding mothers)

Boxer briefs will cause chafing if they are cotton.

Moisture + cotton = blisters or chafing.

If they are synthetic and long enough, they may work.
