Swim
Comments: Overall the swim went well, not much to report. Transition 1
Comments: T1 went okay, but I had some challenges. First, I forgot to open the calf zippers on my suit before I started taking it off. Then, because the transition area was so close to the water, I hadn't really regained my balance by the time I started taking off my wetsuit. As soon as I bent over to take off the legs I started to get a bit lightheaded, so I stopped for a few second before running off with the bike. I ran up the hill to the road, hopped on the bike and started pedaling away. What would you do differently?: Remember to open calf zippers, and take a few moments to regain my balance before taking suit off. Bike
Comments: As soon as I hopped on the bike and started pedaling I realized that it was in too high a gear (on the big chainring) so I shifted to the inner chainring and started picking up speed. Once I got comfortable I tried to shift back to the larger ring, but the derailleur would not move far enough. So, I had to ride the whole way just on the inner ring. The course was relatively flat though, so I did okay pace-wise. What would you do differently?: Double-check shifting before the race starts. Transition 2
Comments: T2 involed running back down a steep ramp to the water's edge where the bike racks were located, then back up the ramp to start the run course. Run
Comments: The run was uneventful, although I did not feel great for most of it. In the beginning my shin splints were bothering me, but once my legs warmed up to running they went away. On the whole, though, I did not have much energy by the time the run came. I didn't feel like I pushed that hard on the swim or bike, but I think that being sick all week caught up to me on the run course. Post race
Warm down: Walked around, packed up transition area, debrief with coach and the rest of the team. What limited your ability to perform faster: Fatigue, mechanical problems on the bike Event comments: Overall today's simulation was pretty good, and I'm pleased with how I did considering the challenges I faced. Completing the simulation makes me much more comfortable about my Olympic distance race (Ashland Lions) coming up in two weeks. Last updated: 2008-05-31 12:00 AM

Got to Walden Pond at 5:30, helped the coach get the running part of the course marked, met with the captains and coaches before the other athletes arrived at 7:00, then went and set up my transition area down by the water.
Swam for 5-10 minutes before the start.
