Subject: Friel's TTB question In Friel's Triathlon Training Bible - 2nd edition in the swim workout appendix B, there's a workout called E3 - Intensive Endurance Intervals. It says: Swim intervals that take 3 to 5 mins to complete in Zone 3, then recover 5 to 10% of the preceding time. He gives an example: 5 x 400 m in 3:00, leaving every 3:20. Is this right??? 400m in 3 mins and stay in Zone 3?!?! This has to be a typo. The world record for the 400 relay is 3.08. This just isn't impossible for a human being let alone staying in Zone 3. Am I interpreting this wrong? What's he really mean here - 5 mins? - Which is still insane. Maybe the distance is screwed up? 5x200 in 3 mins leaving every 3:20 makes a little more sense. |
