Sunny
Total Time = 2h 24m 37s
Overall Rank = 157/164
Age Group = CLYDESDALE
Age Group Rank = 11/11
Pre-race routine:

Woke up at 4:30 and drank a Gatorade and whey protein shake. Drove to the race site that was about an hour away.
Event warmup:

Didn't do enough here. Was nervous about this being my first tri and didn't focus on what I should have been doing.
Swim
  • 27m 39s
  • 547 yards
  • 05m 04s / 100 yards
Comments:

The wind was pretty strong. Steady at 18 mph with gusts up to 23 mph. Some whitecaps on the lake. My swim was not good at all. Started in the crawl, but couldn't maintain. Switched over to the breaststroke. Was very slow.
What would you do differently?:

Learn to swim the crawl better!
Transition 1
  • 01m 58s
Comments:

Did ok in the transition. Ranked 100 out of 164.
Bike
  • 1h 03m 57s
  • 12.43 miles
  • 11.66 mile/hr
Comments:

Arms and legs were tired from doing the breaststroke. Hard to maintain steady pace. The ISM Adamo seat was awesome. The wind really kicked my butt on the last mile when the course turned back into it.
What would you do differently?:

Work on more bricks.
Transition 2
  • 02m 31s
What would you do differently?:

Need to fuel and hydrate better during the bike. Took time to do that in T2.
Run
  • 48m 30s
  • 3.11 miles
  • 15m 36s  min/mile
Comments:

Head saying go, but body said no. Still, I completed it.
Post race
Warm down:

Walked around. Drank recovery shake.

What limited your ability to perform faster:

1. Nerves
2. Need to plan out taper better. Felt flat in all the events.
3. Drop some more weight. 300 lbs at race time

Event comments:

EVERYBODY was super friendly. My thanks go out to Tanya, Holly, and Buzz.

Course: The course was a diamond lay out. Swimming into the sun made it hard to see after rounding the first buoy. Caused some confusion after rounding the third buoy. Several people skipped the fourth buoy and heading for the boat ramp resulting in a lot of penalties. But like they say, you're responsible to know the course.
