Subject: Winter Motivation Help Needed
Hello everyone.....I need help!!

I just can't seem to motivate myself to train right now in the winter. When I have a race coming up, I have no problem working out daily (sometimes 2 times a day), but since there is nothing to train for right now I can't get myself going. Any advice???

Not sure where you live, but there's lots of indoor tris going on where I live.  Perfect for breaking up the off season.

How about signing up for a winter running race?  Is there a local tri club nearby?  Tri clubs often have group training through the winter.

Is there a Master's class for swimming locally?  Working out with a group is helpful and motivating....plus if you don't show up, they get on your case.

The only thing that motivates me when I'm unmotivated is taking that first step. I know I'll feel better after a lift/run/bike/swim or whatever. Just Do It! Take the first step, follow it up with a good sweat and a hot shower, and tonight you'll feel better and sleep like a baby.

Get her done! Good luck!

Heres your motivation:

I'm crankin' out 6 days a week, and when you line up at your first race later this year...

I'm gonna be there to smoke your lazy butt.

...did that help?

Flavor,            Get into the pool, get on your bike, lace up your shoes. If you have worked out at all this year, your body will know what to do. Sometimes, I stand at the end of my lane at my local pool, watching the other swimmers. Eventually, I get my butt in gear and swim another 100. I find that, by the time I get dressed to do my workout, I am halfway there. Once I finish stretching out, I have to run. By the time I set up my bike and get into my shoes, I have to ride, Sure the first few minutes are killers, but I find that a poor workout is better than no workout. Suit up, get out, work out.

O agree I often need motivation... its COLD outside, we havent been above 0 all week..

Do you live with anyone, post your workouts somewhere you can see them, where everyone can see them. They will ask why they havent been checked off yet.

And I agree with everyone else, just do it. No matter how much you don't want to you will be happy you did when race season comes along and you don't have to start from scratch!

That and pick your races!

The thing that has helped me is to have a real program.

In November, I planned my workouts through March and put them in my palm. They are like appointments. Yes, frequently I reschedule them, and sometimes I miss them, but they are part of what I plan a day around.
It took many hours of reading and a good 6 hours simply entering everything I need it to the palm, so I am not going to let that time go to waste. The workouts I have are really specific--like what swim sets I will do and everything. I also have my weight training program and my zones in there, so everything I need to plan my workout is with me all the time.
Spend some time making a plan for a months worth of workouts with the specific goal of base training in mind and you might be more likely to keep those appointments with yourself than if you just leave it up to doing what you "feel like" that day.

Hope this helps some
