They have some interesting looking bikes but the web site feels a little.....well bargain basement.

Anybody have any experiences with buying a bike from them, positive or negative?

Thanks,
e

They aren't exactly mainstream bikes.  Got my wife's starter bike from them and threw on some clip-on tri bars...no problems at all.

I just bought a Motobecane Grand Sprint; it arrived two weeks ago. Assembly was very easy, and I did it all myself. The bike itself is nice; the frame is not as nice as some pricier brands, but the components are Ultegra, and the bike rides well. The sizing is accurate and I am pleased. I would use bikesdirect again.

BikesDirect.com has a related brick-and-mortar store called Cycle Spectrum (http://cyclespectrum.com/).

My sister bought a Motobecane Sprint at the Orlando Cycle Spectrum and has been happy with it. The prices are the same or a little lower than bikesdirect.com and of course the bike comes assembled. The Orlando store is in a big strip mall center. The store is not that large but is completely packed with bikes.

Think of it this way. Almost all bike parts are commodity parts in a way. Ultegra is Ultegra no matter if it is on a sub-$1000 Motobecane or a $1500 Trek. The cheap price is because of the no-name frame. I hear they are mostly the same frames as the previous year's Fuji.

i have. just bought a motobecane fantom cx. nice bike for the money. you take a chance with fit ordering online just make sure you do your research. i spent about a month taking measurements and researhing everything. bike fits me great. took 2 weeks to get mine but they said it was because they ran out, questionable yes. simple to put together and brought everything i needed. packed tightly. didnt move inside the box and nothing was broken. got some pedals too even though the website said it came with none. all in all , i would buy from them again

I bought my Widsor Leeds from them. Didn't have any major issues, though they're not the easiest to get a hold of.

I have the 2007 Motobecane Le Champion...ultegra, with american classic wheels. I have heard they frames are made by Fuji. No problems with ordering! The bike comes quick through the mail too.

I am now trying to save for a carbon tri bike now.

Just got mine from there.  Came in good shape, good starter bike, can't beat the price.  No complaints here!

I have 2 motobecane's but not purchased though bikesdirect and they have fine bikes.  Mine is probably slightly heavier than some high end bikes but it is also a 64cm frame so that will add weight.  Like someone else said components are components, DA is DA.  The only risk you run with ordering online is fit.

I got my nemesis tri bike in january and absolutely love it. Looking back, the experience was great, the bike phenomenal for the price and I wouldn't do it (buying a tri bike) any differently.

I bought a Motobecane Mirage Pro last year from them.  Great bike,  and you can't beat the price.  I'd buy from them again in a second.

I have bought 2 a Motobecane nemesis (from Sprtymama on ebay) and a Windsor basic road bike for my daughter I am very happy with both.  I think Sprtymama is bikesdirect.  My Motobecane is a 08 and it is the same as the 07 Fuji Aloha 1.  Great bike Great price...  hmm they should hire me.

I just got a Motobecane Le Champion, titanium frame, Ultegra.  They were running a crazy deal on them (pre-sale, the frames hadn't been made yet) at Christmastime, and have just started selling them through the website.  Still a great deal at $1700 for a nice titanium frame and good quality components.

I've never heard anyone say a bad thing about either their products or their service, other than those who think you're going straight to hell if you don't support your LBS.  I highly recommend them, as long as you know enough about components & frame size to know what you're getting without actually seeing it and talking to a salesperson.

ETA:   Yes, everybody thinks their website sucks.  But the bikes don't, and the prices really don't.

2008 Motobecane Nemesis (and Nemesis Pro) looks like the same frame as 2007 Fuji Aloha 2.0. Different fork though.

I purchased a Motobecane Vent Noir and I'm quite pleased with it. I added profile design T2 aerobars and fast foward seatpost and I placed first in my age group in my first two races this year so far.

Although I was nervous about the fit due to me being 6'4" I bought the 64 frame and it seems a little big but still comfotable.

I will be upgrading in july to a specialized tarmac (gift from my fiance) but I do enjoy riding the Vent Noir. And the Vent Noir comes in Ferrari Black so it has to be fast.....right?

Two thumbs up.

Whoa, thanks for pointing this out. I have a Windsor The Hour, and it looks like it uses the same frame as the Fuji Track, along with same seat, crank, and some other assorted things. Interesting to see that there's other bikes that use other Fuji frames. Good stuff.

I bought a fixed gear commuter bike from them, and am satisfied. It was as described. The components on mine aren't top-notch, but I didn't expect them to be. Overall, I think it's a great option for a road bike. I think tri-bike fit is more difficult and more important to get done properly in a shop that knows how to do it - but that will cost significantly more money. However, it is likely worthwhile.

good luck,
tom

I've heard good things, but be careful with some of the waiting times on these things. A friend of mine had something that was backordered for a few months and then they re-backordered it for a couple more.
