Total Time = 2h 54m 50s
Overall Rank = 467/1800
Age Group = 30-34
Age Group Rank = 80/220
Event warmup:

Not much.. rode bike to transition..nothing else.
Swim
  • 41m 31s
  • 2500 yards
  • 01m 40s / 100 yards
Comments:

I have no excuse other than I suck at swimming. I didnt panic, I wasnt cold, I navigated pretty well. I was just slower than I would like to be.
What would you do differently?:

Swim to the "left" more. I ended up dangerously close to the far exit bouy. The current gets ridiculous toward the end of the swim and I really had to motor. I didnt quite expect the increase in current right by shore, and I didnt plan ahead well enough for it.
Transition 1
  • 06m 44s
Comments:

As I ran with my bike, Im not sure what happened. I think another cyclist hit my shoe. One of my shoes flew off right before I jumped on the bike, and I had to stop, unclip the other shoe, put both on, and then get going. It sucked... but otherwise T1 went great. I ran really fast the mile to get to T1, and I was hapy with the performance other than the shoe flying off my bike.
What would you do differently?:

Make sure the shoe is rubber banded on.
Bike
  • 1h 00m 35s
  • 18 miles
  • 17.83 mile/hr
Comments:

Overall a great ride once my shoes stayed on! Saw a couple people wipe out pretty hard... its definitely a technical course and should NOT be attempted by novices on the bike.
Transition 2
  • 01m 53s
Comments:

Overall a good T2. The new elastic laces really helped out.
Run
  • 1h 04m 6s
  • 8 miles
  • 08m 01s  min/mile
Comments:

I would have liked a little more water, as I started to get a little warm the last couple miles. I was well trained for the run though, and besides not being able to pass some people I absolutely loved the run.
What would you do differently?:

get out of the water sooner, which would make the later stages of the race easier by having less people to pass.
Post race
What limited your ability to perform faster:

My swim.. and other people on the course. Its very tight, witha lot of people, and no room to pass.

Event comments:

Best race yet... I will be in the lottery every year for a spot! Its definitely a race you "learn" a little the first year, and could come back much fasterthe next year.

Awesome pictures. This is my dream race. This race is what first captured my attention to triathlon when I was young. You did great especially for your first go at that rough course. Didn't you just have a bike crash. Great report. Great race.

Awesome race!  Your run time was stellar, as was your bike!  I agree it was such an amazing race, and I'm sure I'll be tempted to enter the lottery again next year as well.  Great job!

Sounds like you had a good race except for losing your shoe!  I tried to swim to the left but still ended up overshooting the exit and had to backtrack across the beach to hit the timing mat.  I agree with you about the run.  I loved it.  So much more fun than a boring flat trail.  Congrats on a great race.

Thanks everyone for the compliments! I have to say, the race photogs did a great job with this one and I was happy with the pics. My face in the wetsuit pic says it all... i was so spent after trying to sprint the last few hundred yards to shore. What a brutal way to end a long swim!

By far the best race around...just beautiful, and tons of fun!

Great race. I would loved to have seen the shoe incident. I'd think going with a rubber band next time is a  . . . . great idea. Great swim photo. By coming in on the right side you were right in front of the cameras. I came in on the left and alone so no shots for me. I agree you learn a lot the first time that you can apply to the next time. See you next year, I hope.
