Subject: Beginner question on swimming

Hello, I hope to compete in my first triathlon, August 9, 2008.  It's a 440m swim, 13.5 bike, 3.1 run.  My question is.  Will I be disqualified if I revert to the breast stroke to regain my breathing pattern?  Which right now is my weakest area.   Thank you.

Shannon

You can use whatever stroke you care to (breast, side, back, survival) as long as you are the one providing your forward progress. You can even hold on to a buoy or lifeguard kayak as long as you don't try to move forward while doing so.

Sadly, I've looked to my side to see a breast stroker keeping pace with the best I could manage with my crawl stroke. For some reason, he switched back to crawl stroke and slowed way down and I never saw him again. Might have been wise to have stuck with breast stroke in his case.
