Starting to do my final packing for IMCDA and sorting thru the carry vs. check-it with luggage pile. Not wanting to take a chance on the airlines losing any of my gear, I'd like to keep my shoes with me in my carry on. For those of you that have at least tried to do so recently, any issues getting these thru security?

I've never had a problem with my shoes in the carry-on.  A pedal wrench may be questionable depending on who you get at the screening area.

I would not carry any tools in your carry on.  I've had allen wrenches confiscated before (and I'm talking the little tiny ones, not even a set).  Anything that they think you can use to dismantle the plane, however ridicuouls, they'll take

I carried on my bike shoes a couple of weeks ago to San Francisco for Escape From Alcatraz.  I had no problems at SFO or ORD getting through security.  I know you can't bring CO2 in either checked or carry on luggage.  You'll have to buy those when you get there.

I always take the race essential as carry on.  That includes bike shoes, run shoes, pedals, helmet, goggles, etc.  That way if your bike never shows up, you have a chance at racing on a borrowed one.

Never had a problem.  I did get asked about the pedals once and then they saw my helmet and sent me on my way.  Pedal wrench WILL get confiscated because it's > 8" long and metal.

I packed all my gear into a carry on and had no problems. Not taking any chances to lose anything.
