As I get closer and closer to pulling the trigger on a new road bike I wondered what bikes the riders in the Tour de France we using. Out of curiosity, does anyone own one of these?

Obviously I am not going to spend $10,000.00 on a bike (I do have a wife and two teenage daughters, so $10,000.00 isn't just laying around our house)! I am curious to see what brands the pros use.

What is your brand?

I ride a Carbon framed Giant.  Got to say I've been very happy with it so far.  I'm definitely not on the Team T-Mobile bike, though.

I ride a 2008 Cannondale SystemSix.  I think it's an awesome ride with a great stiff feeling in back.  Quick accelleration and great handling. Plus it's pretty darn sexy.

Trek Madone. But not the $7700 SSL.  A much more reasonable (at least, that's what I told Mrs. Gearboy) 5.2.  A bargain at $3k!

At 28lbs, not, I doubt you will. I call mine the truck. I'm built up for loaded touring.

My Alpha bike is a LOOK. Absolutely love the frame. The only bike which I've ridden close to it in performance is the Specialized Tarmac.

The TdF riders have multiple bikes depending on the day's ride.

I picked up a Javelin Fara this year for a road bike, and I have an old Klein Aeolus tri-bike.  I had an old Raliegh road bike that is staying with a friend.

'05 Cannondale R700 road bike with PD Carbon Stryke clip-on aerobars.  Good solid bike with good components (105/Ultegra).  Paid $1,200 for it at the LBS.  Since then have spent another $1,200 on a set of used HED.3's and a Renn 575 disc.  It's comfortable for long training rides and it's been pretty much bullet-proof mechanically.  I've replaced the cables once, and swap out the chain, cassette and front rings every 2K, as preventive maintenance.   Think I'm on my third or fourth set of tires (the original Hutchinson's only lasted about two weeks).

It's still faster than I can pedal it, which is the main reason I haven't sprung for a tri bike.  (I also like the option of riding on the drop bars, particularly on long rides or in hurricane-force winds).  Once the Cannondale is my limiter, then I'll look at another bike.

Mark

Primary roadie is a Time VXRS. Stiffest bike I've ever ridden (actually, toss up w/ Look). Got a screaming deal on the module, so made it even sweeter.

A Specialized - but certainly not a model you'd see in TdF (for one, it's a WSD), if any of them even use Specialized.

I had a carbon Giant TCR and almost pulled the trigger on the (then) T-Mobile Advanced frame.

Instead I bought a used Scott CR-1 carbon (which the Saunier-Duval Scott team uses sometimes if they do not ride the integrated seatpost Addict model).

I have a Felt B2 which is the same frame mold that they use for the Garmin-Chipotle team time trial bike, but they ride the DA ........

So, right now, none.  But pretty damn close!  Oh, and since I don't have to follow the silly UCI minimum weight limit for bikes, my Scott weighs less than their stuff!!
