I am in for the 3 mile "Gatorman" swim. Gonna be fun given that this is a No Wetsuit Event

Super psyched about this event! Debating about doing the 1 miler before the 3 miler. Would give over an hours rest....

I'm getting closer to pulling the trigger on the 1 miler for my first ocean swim (eeek!). Ran it by the hubby and he seems on board with the idea of a weekend trip.

I asked my Master's swim coach about it too, and he said they do a practice swim at 4pm on Sat. So I'll probably go to that.

I've never been more nervous or scared about a race!

Just sent in my registration for the 1 miler. Now I have 1.5 months of freaking out. Surprised

Congrats!  You're gonna love it.  Nothing like swimming in the Pacific.

I might be in for the mile.... likely not, but there's a slim chance.....

I am fairly certain to be out for the 3 miler

I have the fitness to finish the race but probably not to finish within the cutoff time. I am going to do a "Trial Swim" next week to be sure but it just does not seem like I was able to recover the speed I had last year before I injured my shoulder.

If I do bag the 3 miler, I will still show up and do the 1 mile swim

Bummer. What's the cutoff time for the 3 miler?

Bummer Tim.... you could always come do Naples.  No cutoff I am aware of (just checked, 2:10 for 2.75 miles)

Gatorman cutoff is (i believe) 1:45.  And from what I heard, it's a cutoff.  They don't come get you out of the water, they just leave.  no food, no shirt, like you never existed

The cutoff time is 1:45:00 or about a 1:55 /100 yards.

The hard part is that it is a no wetsuit affair so I will be putting a lot more energy into swimming than I did during the Ironman.

I averaged a 1:43 / 100 Yards at Couer d'Alene with a wetsuit for 2.4 miles and I think that puts me right on the bubble for a DNF at Gatorman.

I am not gonna make a final decision until next week. I am going to do a 3 mile swim with my paddler and see

Yup, that is what I have heard from my clubmates also.

Naples is still on the radar for me but given the timing, it might be a bit of a distraction right when I am in the heart of my marathon training for the Fall marathon season.

Still have not made a final decision but it is definitely not looking good

Don't not start b/c you might DNF in time. Aren't you an Ironman?
I think you need to register by Aug 22. Or head down the day before the swim....right?
I am registered and riding down from HB the day before which should be about an even 100 miles, getting trashed Saturday night in SD, and puking it all up after the first 2000 into the swim. Amtraking back. Atleast my puke will feed the fish and I will get a cool t-shirt.

It all would have been a lot easier if they had not cancelled Naples Island so I could have done a 3 mile swim race before Gatorman. (That was my original plan) I did a 1 mile time trial this morning and it puts me right on the bubble for Gatorman.

I am not counting out the possibility of doing it, but will definitely feel better when I get in a longer practice swim with my paddler. (At least 2 miles)
