Can I wear my Garmin (Edge 305) HR monitor under my wetsuit? I won't be using it until the bike and run but I don't want to have to put in on in T1 unless I have to. I'm just not sure how water resistant it is.

I think I saw in the book that the HR strap is fine for water. I've worn it several times in races myself and haven't had any problems.

I leave my watch on the bike though with it ready to go. They actually have a bike mounting clip available.

Thanks. Mine is actually and Edge, made for bikes and it's mounted on my bike. I carry it in my hand when I run, doesn't bother me. Glad to hear someone wears the strap in the water. I think I will then.

I sent an email to garmin about this very question.  They told me not to do it.  Said the strap is not waterproof.

Thats what they told me as well, I think a seal of silicone around the battiery cover would do it though.

Hmm, so did either of you wear it anyway?

As for the silicone, that would be a one-time thing - put the silicone on before the race?

Kelownagirl: I just wore mine in the pool this past weekend during a sprint tri for that exact reason. It worked just fine. Garmin says not to do it, but I think they're just covering their . I'm sure if you only wear it for races you'll be ok; that's what I plan on doing.

If it breaks you can always replace it; they're not too expensive. I've dealt with these guys for other garmin parts and had success: http://www.cyclepath.ca/products/item3198.htm

I lost the battery cover for mine and the battery kept getting corroded no matter how I tried to cap it off. Ended up buying a new strap for $65 so this one's brand new. I am hesitant to wreck it again but I think I might jsut wear it the one time anyway.

I did the silicone thing (a thin coating of aquarium sealant).  No problems.  I've worn it in a pool and the ocean several times that way.  I'm not sure why someone said it is a 'one time' thing.  The silicone can stay on until I have to change the battery, which isn't very often.
