My rides are going to start to ramp up soon for IMFL, just wondering what people do about liquids on the long rides. I have 2 cages and a 40oz camelback, which depending on weather is about 3-4 hours worth. Plan calls for some 6+ hour rides. Should I just go with the 2 bottles and refresh somehow/somewhere? Figure out a way to carry more? What worked for you?

For long stuff I mix up 6 bottles and usually carry 2 bottles and stash the others on our property on the side of the road in the weeds (in a cooler if really hot).  I just make sure my loops are 25-30 miles and loop back home to switch bottles before starting another loop.  My IM race rehearsal rides are done on a set loop that is perfect for stopping at our place each time I pass by.  One of the advantages of living out in the middle of nowhere.

For a 6 hour ride I carry two bottles with 3 hour Infinit mix plus one water bottle in the behind the seat cage that I refill on stops.  Although calorie wise Infinit is all I need, invariably I will also stop for a coke or red bull somewhere along the way for a little pick me up

I find loops get too boring for me, and its too easy to stop, so I like to do out and backs. So I stop at a store and refill along the way. Actually I really look forward to stopping for a cold drink, since everything I have is warm, and for some strange reason I always seem to end up with a snickers bar for a snack while there.

I know where the parks or gas stations are at for a good 100 mile radius from my house.  The past two years I've gone with just 2 bottles of Infinit (or gatorade) in cages mounted on the frame.  Instead of concentrated the nutrition I mix them regular strength and carry a few baggies with preportioned powder to make the refills.

Works very well for me.

I also plan/know where I can stop at a Circle K or a park with water fountains on my 100+ mile rides. I would carry 4 bottles (2 on the frame, 2 in a HydroTail) with GE and water. Once I finished the GE, I made sure I had enough gels to get me home, I never bought more, just topped off with water.

Forget all that stopping get a 70 or 100 oz camelbak and spare bladder. I can easily make it 3 hours on a 100 oz bladder. I haven't needed it yet, but the plan this fall will be to hit the cooler in the car where I'll have the other bladder for longer rides, swap it out and get going again.

I too have a 70 oz camelback that works well. I used this with water and stopped at a church and refilled from their hose. I figured they were just giving water to the thirsty.

I don't like to stop much while I'm training, so I'm a rolling water boy. I have my aero drink bottle w/ water. Two cages on the frame w/ gatorade(that's what my race this August provides) and a cage behind the seat w/ water. That keeps me going for quite awhile. I'll stop at a mini mart along the ride to refill and make a pit stop as needed. Keep all my food in a bento box and pockets.

I take little plastic ziplock bags with high5 or gatorade powder etc in them.  stop at a servo fill the bottles up with water and empty the powder into them.  Or when its really hot buy a couple of bottles of gatorade/powerade from teh servo and use their toilets too.
