Age Group Rank = 20/34
Pre-race routine:

Drove out to 3 Sports to pick up the race packet and then drove to Judy's(zipp1) house. Met Chrissy (wurkit gurl). Judy's husband made a fabulous dinner for us and we hung out talking tri stuff all night.

Event warmup:

Got up at 4:30 and Judy had coffee and bagels for us. Then we drove to the race site. Got there and set up transition and had a 1:20 wait to get in the water. Met MDHillSlug and chatted with a few other people from the tri club till the swim start. Didn't start the swim till 8:00.
Swim
  • 07m 15s
  • 328 yards
  • 02m 13s / 100 yards
Comments:

Not to sure if I like pool swims or not. It's a big pain the the butt to be a slow swimmer and start the race after the elites are finished. Started at 8:00 on the dot and went ok till the two girls behind me need to pass. Waited at the wall and let them go by. Then after about 100 yards or so let two men pass me at the wall again. After that it was smooth sailing the rest of the short swim.

What would you do differently?:

Not sure what more I can do except swim more but I'm trying to take it easy on the shoulder and not get injured. Need to have someone give me a few swim pointers and maybe can make my swim time faster. Last years time was 7:16.
Transition 1
  • 02m 19s
Comments:

Last year was 2:21 so not much improvement but it's something

Bike
  • 39m 1s
  • 12.43 miles
  • 19.11 mile/hr
Comments:

Felt this ride was pretty good. Changing gears a bit more so I'd have some legs left for the run. Managed to pass quite a few ladies and only had 3 guys pass me.
What would you do differently?:

Not slack off on my training three weeks before a race!!!! But happy that I did shave 12 sec off the bike from last year.
Transition 2
  • 01m 41s
What would you do differently?:

Just get quicker! Last year was 1:38. This is a race for goodness sake!!!!
Run
  • 32m 45s
  • 3.11 miles
  • 10m 32s  min/mile
Comments:

This run was pretty hot! Had to walk a bit more than last year so I was pretty disappointed in myself. Used most of the water to pour over my head to stay cool.
What would you do differently?:

This is where my lack of training hurt me! This is by far my weakest and should be where I improve!!

Post race
Warm down:

Hung out with Chrissy to wait for Judy to come across the finish. Judy gave my number to the Tri club handing out prizes and got some cool dry fit socks. Had great tacos after the race.

What limited your ability to perform faster:

The only thing that limitted me this year was myself! I have had a serious lack of training mojo for the past three weeks. Not to sure what the problem is but I truely was mad at myself for not bettering my time from last year. Now that being said, I am glad that it wasn't to far off from last year.

Event comments:

Set up always puts on great races. This race, they knew the heat was going to be bad, and had alot more water stops on the run. Great post race food from Chipoltes!

Great job, Sue! It was hot out there for sure. Don't be too bummed about not besting your time from last year - the tacos made it all worth it Was great meeting you and Judi and getting to hang out with BT'ers

Looks like you had a good time and a good race. You should be proud that you got out there and did it, (I (we) know some people who did not race but signed up)
